Lions' Rashean Mathis: Announces retirement
Rashean Mathis announced his retirement from the NFL, Tori Petry of the Detroit Lions' official website reports.Selected by the Jaguars in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft, Mathis was quietly one of the league's better cornerbacks for a sizable portion of his career. He never quite reached superstar status, but he did start 129 games for the Jaguars from 2003 to 2012, then made another 36 starts for the Lions over the past three seasons. After a concussion brought his 2015 campaign to an early finish, the 35-year-old Mathis said he's ready to hang up his cleats. The Lions, meanwhile, have an emerging star at cornerback in Darius Slay, but they could undoubtedly still use some help at the position.

Rashean Mathis (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.Mathis missed the previous three games due to concussion symptoms, so it's not too surprising to see him land on IR. The 35-year-old could found his way onto the field next year, but given his age and injury history it wouldn't be surprising to see him retire at the end of the season.

Lions CB Rashean Mathis plans to retire after 2016 season
Detroit Lions cornerback Rashean Mathis is planning to retire after the two-year contract he signed in March expires, per the Detroit Free Press. That comes directly from Mathis, who admits he has told that to others. Mathis, who will be 35 when the regular season begins, has started all but one game since joining the Lions in 2013. He contributed to 51 tackles a year ago, his highest total since 2010 with Jacksonville.

Lions GM Mayhew: We'd love to have Rashean Mathis back
Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew told reporters at the combine that he'd love to have cornerback Rashean Mathis back on the team next season, per MLive.com. "Yeah, we'd love to have Rashean back," Mayhew said. "He's been a really good leader for us. He's done a phenomenal job, I think, working with Darius (Slay)." Mathis, who is due to be a free agent in March, started 29 games the past two seasons for the team, including all 16 last season. He registered 51 tackles, nine pass breakups and one interception in 2014.

Reggie Bush is listed as questionable again on Lions' injury report
The Detroit Lions released their Week 13 injury report Wednesday, and announced they will play Thursday against the Bears without defensive tackle Nick Fairley (knee) and guard Larry Warford. Running back Reggie Bush (ankle, back) is listed as questionable for a third straight week. However, he told reporters he expects to play, according to MLive.com. Bush also said the same thing leading up to Week 12 before sitting out. Tackle Riley Reiff (knee) is also listed as questionable, while Ezekiel Ansah (elbow), safety James Ihedigbo (knee), wide receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle), defensive end George Johnson (foot), cornerback Rashean Mathis (ankle) and safety Glover Quin (back) are all listed as probable.

Rashean Mathis returns interception for touchdown in Week 5
Detroit Lions defensive back Rashean Mathis picked off a pass and took the ball 41 yards for a touchdown in his team's 17-14 loss to the Bills in Week 5. Mathis stepped in front of a receiver on a pass that shouldn't have been thrown in the second quarter and had a clear path to the end zone for an easy score that put the Lions up 14-0. However, the offense was unable to find any more success while the defense allowed 17 unanswered points to fall to 3-2. The Lions face the Vikings in Minnesota in Week 6.
