Elvis Dumervil: Headed for free agency
The 49ers informed Elvis Dumervil that he will not be retained for the 2018 season.Dumervil joined the 49ers on a two-year, $8 million deal last offseason and produced 13 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 16 games. It's somewhat surprising the 49ers cut ties with the 34-year-old given his relatively small cap hit, but his absence will allow the team to give more playing time to its stockpile of first-round defensive linemen in Soloman Thomas (2017), DeForest Buckner (2016) and Arik Armstead (2015).

49ers' Elvis Dumervil: Sack in win
Elvis Dumervil recorded two solo tackles and one sack in Sunday's win over the Bears. The veteran now has 10 tackles and 5.5 sacks in his first season by the Bay. What may be even more impressive is the fact that he reached Sunday's totals while only logging 14 snaps defensively, his second-lowest snap count of the season. He'll now turn his focus to Sunday's matchup with the Texans.

49ers' Elvis Dumervil: Logs season high in snaps
Elvis Dumervil brought up his sack total to 4.5 in Sunday's victory over the Giants.Dumervil saw a season high 37 snaps due in large part to the absence of Solomon Thomas (knee). While the seasoned pass-rush specialist was able to notch another sack, it was his only tackle of the contest, and he only has seven total tackles this season to go along with his 4.5 sacks. Dumervil will continue only seeing work on passing downs, which limits his appeal in IDP formats that do not place high importance on accruing sacks.

49ers' Elvis Dumervil: Excelling as pass-rush specialist
Elvis Dumervil finished with three tackles (two solo) and 1.5 sacks in a 26-23 overtime loss to the Colts on Sunday.Dumervil has now collected 3.5 sacks over his last two contests after failing to record a tackle or a sack over the previous three games. The veteran pass rusher has yet to eclipse the 30-snap mark in any game this season, which severely limits his tackle potential on a weekly basis. Dumervil's sack streak may be in jeopardy when the San Francisco 49ers take on two of the better offensive tackles in the NFL -- Trent Williams and Morgan Moses -- next week in Washington.

49ers' Elvis Dumervil: Eclipses 100-sack mark
Elvis Dumervil recorded two sacks in Sunday's 18-15 overtime loss to the Cardinals, which served as his only tackles on the day.The veteran pass rusher was only on the field for 33 percent of the team's defensive snaps, but he made them count, getting to Carson Palmer twice and reaching the impressive milestone of 100 sacks over his nine-year career. Dumervil will continue to be used exclusively as a pass-rush specialist, consequently limiting his tackle total and IDP value going forward.

49ers' Elvis Dumervil: Heading to the Bay Area
Elvis Dumervil signed a two-year contract Monday with the San Francisco 49ers, Conor Orr of NFL.com reports. After being let go by the Ravens in March, Dumervil will latch on with the rebuilding 49ers, providing a veteran presence to a young core of pass rushers. The 33-year-old appears likely to take on a rotational rusher role, but will also serve as a mentor to the likes of 2017 No. 3 overall pick Solomon Thomas, 2016 first-round pick DeForest Buckner and 2015 first-round pick Arik Armstead. Dumervil, a five-time Pro Bowler, has a prior relationship with new 49ers general manager John Lynch, who was his teammate early in his career with the Broncos.

Ravens' Elvis Dumervil: Active Sunday for first time since Oct. 9
Elvis Dumervil (foot) is active for Sunday's game against the Titans, ESPN.com's Jamison Hensley reports.Dumervil's foot injury had kept him sidelined for the Baltimore Ravens' previous four games, but after the veteran was a full participant in all three of the team's practices this week, he'll be cleared to take the field for the first time since Oct. 9. He may only see limited snaps in his return to action, however, as Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun reports that Terrell Suggs and Albert McClellan are expected to continue starting at outside linebacker, with Dumervil likely entering the contest primarily on passing downs.
