Eric Weddle: Announces re-retirement
Eric Weddle (pectoral) said Sunday after the Rams' 23-20 win over the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI that he will retire from football, Jordan Mendoza of USA Today reports. When their depth at safety was decimated by injuries heading into the postseason, the Rams were able to coax Weddle out of retirement after he had previously hung up his cleats two years earlier. The 37-year-old officially signed with Los Angeles' practice squad Jan. 12 and was elevated to the roster ahead of each of the team's four playoff contests, finishing with 18 tackles across those contests. He was on the field for all 61 of the Rams' defensive snaps in the Super Bowl victory, despite suffering a torn pectoral muscle in the first quarter of the contest. Weddle will soon undergo surgery to address the injury, but his strong showing in the postseason hasn't reinvigorated a desire to keep playing during the 2022 campaign. The six-time Pro Bowler acknowledged after the game that making a brief comeback to capture his first Super Bowl ring was enough for him to walk away from the game without any regrets.

Rams' Eric Weddle: Activated to 53-man roster
The Los Angeles Rams elevated Eric Weddle off the practice squad to the 53-man roster Monday.Weddle hasn't made an appearance in the NFL since 2019, but he's come out of retirement ahead of the playoffs after Jordan Fuller (ankle) was placed on injured reserve last week. The veteran safety will be active for the wild-card showdown against the Cardinals, but it's unclear how much playing time he will actually receive. Taylor Rapp (concussion) is also out, so Weddle, Nick Scott and Terrell Burgess are all candidates for increased roles against Kyler Murray and Arizona's dynamic offense.

Eric Weddle: Signing with Rams
Eric Weddle intends to come out of retirement and sign with the Rams ahead of the team's upcoming postseason run, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. With starting safety Jordan Fuller (ankle) out for the playoffs, Los Angeles will bring back the 37-year-old Weddle, who last played in the NFL in 2019. He spent that season with the Rams, his lone campaign with the club following nine years with the Chargers and three in Baltimore. The Rams also have a relatively experienced backup in Nick Scott, but they may need both him and Weddle to play a lot of snaps if their other starting safety, Taylor Rapp, doesn't clear concussion protocol before Monday's game against the Cardinals.
