Matt Cassel completed seven of 17 passes for 59 yards and one interception across two game appearances in 2018.Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford played through a list of injuries all season long and Cassel consequently made just two appearances on the year, once when the Detroit Lions blew out the Jets in Week 1 and another in Week 15 on the opposite side of a blowout against the Vikings. The 36-year-old Cassel will now enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, though it's possible the Lions could bring the USC product back for another go-around in 2019.

The veteran signal-caller has plenty of experience under his belt, appearing in 15 or 16 games in three straight seasons from 2008-10. Matt Cassel completed 21 of 32 passes for 141 yards with a touchdown and a lost fumble in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Dolphins.Two plays after having a 59-yard touchdown pass to Delanie Walker erased on an offensive pass interference penalty, Cassel had a strip-sack fumble returned for a 38-yard Miami touchdown. He failed to get Tennessee's wide receivers involved early, throwing 10 of his 12 first-half completions to tight ends or running backs as his team went into the break trailing 10-3. While he erased that deficit with an 11-yard touchdown to tight end Phillip Supernaw in the third quarter, Cassel was unable to produce any more points the rest of the way. Matt Cassel is expected to receive the start at quarterback Sunday against the Dolphins with Marcus Mariota (hamstring) considered unlikely to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.The Tennessee Titans are still officially labeling Mariota as questionable and a game-time decision for the contest, but with his recovery time from the hamstring injury -- which he suffered in the Week 4 loss to the Texans -- estimated at 2-to-4 weeks, it appears though he hasn't quite healed up yet. As a result, Cassel, who completed four of 10 passes for 21 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in relief of Mariota last Sunday, is in line for his first start since Week 17 of last season. Given his middling numbers since his Pro Bowl campaign with the Chiefs in 2010, Cassel profiles as a lower-tier fantasy option at the position, and his presence behind center will likely result in a downgrade in production from the Titans' receivers as well.

Nonetheless, nobody in Tennessee is going to want to see Cassel in there too long if Mariota misses time. In two extended looks last season, Cassel completed 58 percent of his passes for a paltry 5.5 yards per attempt. He shouldn't be on most radars from a fantasy perspective, even if Mariota is out for awhile.
