Report: 49ers to sign OL Erik Pears to two-year deal

The San Francisco 49ers and offensive lineman Erik Pears have reached an agreement on a two-year deal, a source told Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910AM in Arizona. Pears, 32, was with the Bills since 2010, starting in 56 of 57 games played in. He also showed versatility, lining up at right tackle and right guard during his stint with the Bills.

Bills T Cyrus Kouandjio could be close to earning starting role

Buffalo Bills rookie offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio said Friday that he has had "a lot of reps" as the right guard with the first team in practice, the Buffalo News reports. It's unclear whether Kouandjio is close to sliding into the starting lineup over the struggling Erik Pears, but coach Doug Marrone said the rookie "absolutely might" be active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Kouandjio has been a regular on the inactive list this season. He has seen work with the scout team as right tackle in practice, but it appears the team could be preparing him for a move inside.

Bills offensive line to play first game together Sunday

The Buffalo Bills starting offensive line will see its first playing time together in a game Sunday against the Chicago Bears, with Cordy Glenn, Chris Williams, Eric Wood, Erik Pears and Seantrel Henderson lining up left to right, the Buffalo News reports. The Bills are walking into a hostile environment in Chicago, and the fact that the starting five on the offensive line didn't see any time together could make things difficult on running backs C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson if the linemen suffer a communications breakdown. It also bodes well for the Chicago defense, providing an increased opportunity that a pass rusher breaks through unblocked on a missed assignment.

    Erik Pears making 'outstanding' progress

First-year Buffalo Bills head coach has been impressed with starting right tackle Erik Pears during the preseason. "Outstanding. He really has (progressed)," Marrone said at his Tuesday press conference. "I’ve seen him really make a jump, especially recent days. He gets a lot of great work. Obviously going against Mario (Williams) and the defensive ends on our team, I think that he’s really upped his production from what you’ve seen when he’s played here in the past. I really think he’s going about it as a pro, he works extremely hard. I work with that group, and I really see him. The funny thing is people look and they’ll say ‘gosh, this guy has been here six years or eight years and he is what he is.’ A lot of times, those players, they can continue to get better. I see him as a guy, even though he’s a veteran, he’s really got a lot better, especially in these past couple of days."
