Seahawks' Jason Myers: Comes out on top in job battle

The Seahawks are left with one kicker (Myers) on the 90-man roster following the release of Sam Ficken on Friday.

Myers and Ficken were poised to embark on a battle for the kicker job in Seattle. However, before the offseason program could begin next week, the Seahawks cast their lot with Myers, at least for the time being. In 54 games between the Jaguars and Jets the past four years, he made 84.3 percent of his field-goal attempts (97 of 115). Meanwhile, after missing seven point-after tries from the longer distance in 2015, he's missed just eight over the last three years.

  • Younghoe Koo K | NYG

Younghoe Koo: Won't sign with Chicago

Koo won't sign with the Bears after working out for the team Wednesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Bears will instead stick with Chris Blewitt and Redford Jones as the two kickers on their roster, despite the fact neither has any NFL experience. Koo will continue to look for opportunities after the collapse of the AAF. He hasn't seen NFL action since being released by the Chargers in October 2017.

Younghoe Koo: Trying out with Bears

Koo will try out with the Bears on Wednesday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

The Bears currently have two kickers -- Redford Jones and Chris Blewitt -- under contract, but neither have played in the NFL. Koo last played in the NFL in 2017 with the Chargers, making three of six field goals and all nine extra points. Nick Rose will also participate in the tryout.

Seahawks' Jason Myers: Signing with Seattle

Myers agreed in principle with the Seahawks on Wednesday on a four-year deal worth around $15-to-16 million, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports.

The Seahawks have swooped in to sign a kicker in Myers who earned a Pro Bowl nod for his work with the Jets last season. The Marist product drilled 30 of 36 field-goal attempts and connected on 30 of 33 point-after attempts across 16 games. It's unclear how much guaranteed money Myers' deal contains, but the reported financial commitment would make him a top-10 kicker in terms of average annual salary. He's slated to replace incumbent Sebastian Janikowski (thigh), who is a free agent.

Jason Myers: Parting ways with New York

Myers announced Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he won't be returning to the Jets in 2019.

The Jets already made one of the biggest splashes of the offseason with the addition of running back Le'Veon Bell, but apparently weren't willing to pay the going rate for their Pro Bowl kicker on the open market. Myers should draw plenty of interest after knocking down 33 of 36 field-goal attempts last season, including a 6-of-7 mark from beyond 50 yards.

  • Wil Lutz K | DEN

Saints' Wil Lutz: Staying in New Orleans

Lutz reached a multi-year agreement Wednesday on a new deal with the Saints, Josh Katzenstein of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Attached to a dome team with an elite offense, Lutz owns career conversion rates of 87 percent on field goals and 97 percent on PATs. He's been a reliable starter for fantasy owners, with the only drawback being the Saints' consistent excellence in converting red-zone opportunities into touchdowns. While he hasn't shown the same ceiling as a Justin Tucker or Greg Zuerlein, the 24-year-old has a strong argument to be drafted as a top-five kicker in 2019.

  • Cairo Santos K | CHI

Buccaneers' Cairo Santos: Remains in Tampa

Santos will re-sign with the Buccaneers, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Santos played in nine games between the Buccaneers and Rams in 2018, converting 14 of 18 field goals and five of six extra points. He could have light competition during the offseason and training camp from Danish kicker Phillip Andersen, who last played in the German Football League. Nevertheless, the job belongs to Santos unless he loses it.

  • Texans' Ka'imi Fairbairn: Gets second-round tender

Fairbairn received a second-round tender from the Texans on Monday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Texans won't take any chances with their starting kicker, who converted every kick he attempted inside 40 yards last season and was the NFL's scoring leader. Houston would receive a second-round pick in the unlikely event that Fairbairn receives an offer sheet the team doesn't want to match. Fairbairn appears on track to be a top fantasy option at the kicker position in 2019.

  • Raiders' Daniel Carlson: Tendered by Raiders

The Raiders tendered Carlson to an exclusive-rights contract Thursday, Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

He only attempted 17 field goals over 10 games with the Raiders last season, but Carlson nonetheless set a franchise record for accuracy (94 percent) while drilling all three of his tries from 50-plus yards. While he'll now stick around in Oakland on a cheap contract, the Raiders offense will need to attempt more than 1.5 field goals per game for Carlson to surface on the fantasy radar.

  • Jake Elliott K | PHI

Eagles' Jake Elliott: Signing with Eagles for 2019

Elliott is staying with the Eagles on a one-year contract for 2019, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Elliott was scheduled to become an exclusive rights free agent, essentially locking him in for another year in Philadelphia even before Friday's agreement. The 24-year-old kicker has converted 83.9 percent of field-goal attempts and 93.5 percent of PATs through two seasons, including 19 of 21 from 40-49 yards and seven of 11 from 50-plus. Given his attachment to an above-average offense, Elliott makes sense as a low-end kicker option with some upside in the final round of 2019 fantasy drafts.
