  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Bears' Mitchell Trubisky: Will put in limited work Thursday

Coach Matt Nagy said that Trubisky (shoulder) would be a limited participant in Thursday's practice.

It doesn't represent a notable step forward for Trubisky in his recovery from a right shoulder sprain, as he was limited in Wednesday's session and Nagy added that the quarterback wouldn't throw Thursday, per Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. Unless Trubisky makes some meaningful progress Friday, it appears he'll be sidelined for a second straight game Sunday against the Giants, which aligns with what Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported earlier Thursday. If that's the case, Chase Daniel would pick up another start after completing 27 of 37 attempts for 230 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Bears' 23-16 win over the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Practicing again Thursday

Darnold (foot) is taking part in Thursday's practice, Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.

The Jets listed Darnold as a limited participant at Wednesday's session, but a full showing Thursday or Friday would bolster his chances of returning from a two-game absence and starting Sunday against the Titans. The team will provide an update on Darnold's participation level shortly after Thursday's session concludes, but he should at least garner a limited tag since he was spotted participating in quarterback drills for the second straight day, per Brian Costello of the New York Post. If Darnold's strained right foot doesn't respond to practice activity as well as hoped, Josh McCown (thumb/back) would likely draw a third straight start this weekend.

  • C.J. Beathard QB | JAC

    49ers' C.J. Beathard: Won't start Week 13

Beathard will remain the 49ers' backup quarterback for the team's Week 13 game with the Seahawks after coach Kyle Shanahan announced Monday that Nick Mullens would retain the starting role, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Mullens will be under center for the fourth consecutive game, but Shanahan made it clear that the Southern Mississippi product's grip on the No. 1 gig is far from secure. Since lighting up the Raiders for 11.9 yards per attempt and three touchdowns in his NFL debut in Week 9, Mullens has regressed badly in his last two outings against mediocre teams in the Giants and Buccaneers, completing 63.4 of his passes for 6.6 YPA, two touchdowns and four interceptions. Mullens will face his stiffest test to date on the road versus the 6-5 Seahawks and could be at risk of getting benched if he struggles for the third game in a row. That would pave the way for Beathard to get another look, but the 2017 third-round pick hasn't proved to be any better of an option through his first two seasons in the league. Over 13 appearances (10 starts), Beathard has completed 57.3 percent of his passes for 6.8 YPA and a 12:13 TD:INT while fumbling eight times.

  • Nick Mullens QB | JAC

49ers' Nick Mullens: Remains starter for Week 13

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Mullens will remain the 49ers' starting quarterback for their Week 13 game against the Seahawks, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports. "We're playing this year out with [Mullens] and [C.J. Beathard] and we'll see how games go," Shanahan said. "We're going to do everything we can to win a game. I know we're preparing with Nick and if he ever struggled I'd bring in C.J. We'll see how it goes."

Mullens will retain the starting role for the 49ers' fourth straight contest, but it's clear the second-year signal-caller's hold on the job is shaky, as Shanahan's comments seemingly suggest. Shanahan expressed frustration in Mullens' performance during the 49ers' 27-9 loss to the Buccaneers this past weekend, with the 23-year-old only completing 18 of 32 attempts for 221 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in a matchup with one of the NFL's worst past defenses. That outing came after a poor showing against the Giants in his second start, further dimming the luster of Mullens' outstanding NFL debut in Week 9, when he tossed three touchdowns in a resounding win over the Raiders. After his first three appearances came against losing teams, Mullens will face his stiffest test to date on the road against a Seattle defense that has remained an effective unit even after the season-ending injury to star safety Earl Thomas (lower leg). Should Mullens struggle to keep the chains moving early in the contest, it wouldn't be surprising if Shanahan pulled him in favor of Beathard.

  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Bears' Mitchell Trubisky: Likely on sidelines Week 13

Trubisky (shoulder) is planning to sit Sunday against the Giants in favor of Chase Daniel, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Trubisky officially made his return to practice Wednesday, but it appears the team will continue to avoid taking any chances with its quarterback of the future. Chase Daniel will be in line to start his second consecutive game against the Giants, while Trubisky is likely eyeing a Week 14 return for a home matchup against the Rams.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Feeling good after practice

Darnold (foot) said he felt "really good" after a limited practice Wednesday and hopes to play in Sunday's game in Tennessee, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Josh McCown (back/thumb) worked with the first-team offense during the open portion of Wednesday's practice, but Darnold served as the No. 2 quarterback ahead of Davis Webb. It's a sign the rookie could be active for Sunday's game against the Titans even if the Jets take a cautious approach and keep McCown under center for another week. Darnold plans to practice again Thursday, with his activity during that session -- as well as Friday's -- likely to shed further light on his status for Week 13.

  • Mitch Trubisky QB | TEN

Bears' Mitchell Trubisky: Officially limited Wednesday

Trubisky (shoulder) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday on the Bears' injury report, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.

During the session, Trubisky took part in a portion of individual drills and primarily focused on footwork, but he didn't make any throws. The development is a bit of a surprise after coach Matt Nagy said he didn't expect Trubisky to practice Wednesday. Nagy also labeled Trubisky as "day-to-day," which in football parlance means he has a chance to return Sunday against the Giants. If the AC joint sprain in his right shoulder is too much to overcome this weekend, the Bears will turn to Chase Daniel to start a second consecutive contest.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Practices fully, despite soreness

Tannehill (shoulder) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice but did mention that he feels some general soreness, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Tannehill also made sure to mention that his throwing shoulder feels good, downplaying any possible concern after he returned from a five-game absence for Sunday's 27-24 loss in Indianapolis. His progress is still worth keeping an eye one, given that he was spotted with a harness over the shoulder while practicing Wednesday, per Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald. Tannehill draws a Week 13 home matchup with a Buffalo defense ranked second in yards allowed per pass attempt (6.4) and first in passing yards allowed per game (194) this season.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Listed as limited

Darnold (foot) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports.

Wednesday marks the first time Darnold has been listed as anything besides a non-participant since he injured his foot in a Week 9 loss to the Dolphins. A report from over the weekend suggested the rookie is likely to miss his third straight game Sunday in Tennessee, though he at least seems to have some chance of returning based on his activity Wednesday. Another start for Josh McCown is still the more likely scenario, as the Jets don't have any incentive to rush Darnold back and probably want to see him log a full practice before clearing the rookie to start again.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Spotted at practice

Darnold (foot) was present for the Jets' first practice of the week Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

That was also the case last Wednesday, but the quarterback was ultimately listed as a non-participant on the team's corresponding injury report. It remains to be seen if Darnold will be able to work in an official capacity Wednesday, but an update on that front should come later in the day. His status for Sunday's game against the Titans tentatively remains cloudy.
