Jets' Sam Darnold: Week 10 status undecided
Coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday that Darnold is considered day-to-day with a foot strain.
Though there are reports suggesting that Darnold isn't expected to play Sunday against the Bills, an official determination has yet to be made on that front. With that in mind, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site relays that the team will see how Darnold's foot heals in the coming days before rendering a decision on his status for the weekend. The Jets are on bye in Week 11, which will also likely factor into their plans on how to proceed with Darnold if he remains in poor health heading into Sunday. If Darnold is forced to miss time, Josh McCown would start in the rookie's stead, while Davis Webb would likely be promoted from the practice squad to serve as the team's No. 2 quarterback.

Bills' Josh Allen: Making progress in recovery
After practicing in limited fashion Wednesday, Allen (elbow) relayed that he's "still taking it day to day" as Sunday's game against the Jets approaches, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports. "Just trying to work [through] if there's any soreness or stiffness and just trying to get back in the swing of playing football again," Allen said. "I was limited at practice, but it felt good throwing the ball."
Per Brown, Allen "appears to have an outside chance at returning to the lineup Sunday." That implies the Bills will take a cautious approach with him, which makes sense with a Week 11 bye looming. Meanwhile, fellow signal-caller Derek Anderson remains in the NFL's concussion protocol and didn't practice Wednesday, leaving the struggling Nathan Peterman as the team's top healthy option at the position.

Jets' Sam Darnold: Not expected to play Week 10
Darnold (foot) is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Bills, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
While the Jets haven't actually ruled Darnold out, multiple beat reporters have sources confirming he won't be able to play after sitting out Wednesday's practice while donning a protective boot over his sprained foot. Josh McCown is expected to start Sunday, with the rookie potentially gaining clearance to play following the Jets' Week 11 bye.

Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN
Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Ruled out for fifth straight game
Tannehill (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Green Bay, but the Dolphins still hope he'll be ready to play Week 12 against the Colts, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.
As expected, Tannehill will be held out for a fifth consecutive game ahead of the Dolphins' Week 11 bye. The team is hopeful he'll be ready to go immediately thereafter, but coach Adam Gase admitted Wednesday that he isn't sure if the quarterback has made meaningful progress in his recovery from the shoulder capsule injury, according to Salguero. Brock Osweiler will get at least one more start this weekend, with possibly more to follow.

Jets' Sam Darnold: Sprained foot threatens Week 10 status
Darnold is dealing with a sprained right foot, both Rich Cimini of ESPN.com and Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News report.
According to Mehta, Darnold's sprain is "significant," and the expectation is that quarterback won't be available Sunday against the Bills. The Jets have yet to confirm that will be the case, but those who have been relying on Darnold in fantasy leagues should begin weighing other options. If Darnold is in fact sidelined for Week 10, Josh McCown would draw the team's starting assignment.

Jets' Sam Darnold: Sports walking boot on right foot
Darnold wasn't practicing Wednesday due to an apparent foot injury, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.
Darnold -- who came up limping after taking a sack in Sunday's loss to Miami -- was sporting a walking boot on his right foot on the sideline during the Jets' first practice of Week 10. Per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Darnold admitted Monday that he was "dinged up," but the quarterback suggested that it wasn't anything serious. Now that he's absent from practice, Darnold's status for this weekend's game against the Bills must now be monitored. Veteran Josh McCown would be in line for the start if Darnold can't go.

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Not throwing Wednesday
Tannehill (shoulder) wasn't seen throwing during Wednesday's practice, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
With Tannehill still not cleared for full activity, the stage appears set for Brock Osweiler to make another start in Week 10 against the Packers. Look for coach Adam Gase to make an announcement on that front later Wednesday. Assuming Tannehill ends up being ruled out, his next chance to play would arrive Nov. 25 against the Colts, with the Dolphins on bye in Week 11.

Josh Allen QB | BUF
Bills' Josh Allen: Back at practice
Coach Sean McDermott said that Allen (elbow) would practice Wednesday on a limited basis. "We haven't seen any setbacks in [Allen's] rehab but we're going to take it one day at a time," McDermott said of the quarterback's Week 10 outlook.
The wheels have been coming off for the 2-7 Bills and their offense has been a laughingstock for weeks. If the team truly wants to play it safe with the prized rookie, then it would probably prefer to hold Allen out until Nov. 25 against the Jaguars, as a Week 11 bye would offer the quarterback additional time to recuperate. That said, the whole squad is getting frustrated after three straight games of single-digit point totals and there's something to be said about getting Allen as much playing time as possible amid a lost season. With Derek Anderson still in the concussion protocol and other teams salivating over the chance to face interception machine Nathan Peterman, perhaps the Bills will throw caution to the wind and insert Allen back in as soon as Sunday.

C.J. Beathard QB | JAC
49ers' C.J. Beathard: Backup role confirmed
Nick Mullens confirmed that he would continue to serve as the 49ers' starting quarterback Week 10 against the Giants, relegating Beathard to the No. 2 role, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Though Beathard looks to be in decent health after his wrist/thumb injury limited him to backup duties in the Week 9 win over the Raiders, it would have been a major surprise if he reclaimed the top gig after Mullens dazzled in his NFL debut. Mullens torched the Raiders for 262 passing yards and three touchdowns while completing 16 of 22 attempts in the 34-3 win. Perhaps most notable was the fact that Mullens didn't commit a turnover, an area where Beathard (seven interceptions, three lost fumbles) has faltered through his five starts this season. It's possible that Beathard will earn another opportunity to start later in the campaign if Mullens falters in his subsequent opportunities, but for the time being, the second-year signal-caller's future in San Francisco beyond 2018 suddenly looks murky.

Nick Mullens QB | JAC
49ers' Nick Mullens: Confirms self as starter
Mullens confirmed that coach Kyle Shanahan has appointed him as the starter for Monday's game against the Giants, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
A report from Jay Glazer of Fox Sports over the weekend suggested things were headed in this direction, so Mullens' comments don't come as much of a surprise. It would have been difficult for the 49ers to turn the top gig back over to C.J. Beathard -- who owns a 1-9 career record as a starter -- after Mullens put on a clinic in his NFL debut with 16 completions on 22 attempts for 262 yards and three scores in the Week 9 trouncing of the Raiders. Mullens gets another favorable draw this week against a non-contending Giants squad followed by a Week 12 matchup against a beleaguered Tampa Bay pass defense following the 49ers' bye, so he'll at least be worth a short-term look in most leagues that start two quarterbacks.
