Titans' Marcus Mariota: Enters game after Gabbert suffers possible concussion

Mariota (elbow) entered Sunday's game against the Jaguars after Blaine Gabbert, who started the game, headed to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion, per Jim Wyatt of the Titans' official site.

Mariota, who has been nursing an elbow injury, began the game as the team's backup, but once Gabbert was forced out of the game, Mariota took over at QB for the Titans. It remains to be seen how much his elbow injury affects his grip (and throwing), but with Tennessee only carrying two signal-callers on their active roster, the team had no choice but to turn to Mariota, even at less that 100 percent.

  • Titans' Blaine Gabbert: Suffers possible head injury

Gabbert is under evaluation for a concussion Sunday at Jacksonville, John Glennon of The Athletic reports.

Gabbert took a sack and fumbled -- which the Titans recovered -- midway through the first quarter and left the contest, allowing Marcus Mariota (elbow) to make his first appearance since Week 1. As the only two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, Mariota will be required to remain in the game unless Gabbert passes his concussion evaluation.

  • Nate Sudfeld QB | SF

    Eagles' Nate Sudfeld: Inactive Sunday

Sudfeld is a coach's decision inactive for Sunday's game against the Colts.

Sudfeld returns to his position as the No. 3 quarterback now that Carson Wentz (knee) is returning to action. Sudfeld isn't likely to suit up or see the field unless both Wentz and Nick Foles go down with injuries in future weeks.

Titans' Marcus Mariota: Suits up Sunday

Mariota (elbow) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Jaguars and expected to serve as the Titans' backup quarterback behind Blaine Gabbert, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Mariota has been making progress in practice since suffering an elbow issue Week 1, but the Titans are evidently inclined to take it slow with the QB, thus prompting the team to lean on Gabbert for the second straight week.

  • Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT

Packers' Aaron Rodgers: Active again Sunday

Rodgers (knee) is active for Sunday's game at Washington, Jason Wahlers of the Packers' official site reports.

Although the Packers never revealed whether Rodgers took part in Saturday's session, he likely did just that for the second week in a row. In his first game on a balky left knee Week 2, he compiled 281 yards and one touchdown against one of the NFL's top defenses, the Vikings, albeit with the help of an overtime period. His mobility was clearly hindered, though, and will be tested further in what will be rainy conditions in Landover, Md. this Sunday.

Titans' Marcus Mariota: Expected to act as backup Week 4

Mariota (elbow), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, is expected to be active for the contest but will likely serve as the backup quarterback behind Blaine Gabbert, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

With Mariota's ulnar nerve issue proving bothersome for the second straight week, the Titans don't appear fully confident in his ability to direct the offense just yet. Mariota managed three limited practices this week and reportedly demonstrated some progress at Thursday's session, but the Titans appear set to proceed with Gabbert as their quarterback until Mariota regains complete feeling in his right hand. While filling in for Mariota in Week 2 against the Texans, Gabbert underwhelmed with 13 completions on 20 attempts for 117 yards and a touchdown, but his performance was good enough to guide the Titans to a 20-17 win.

  • Tyrod Taylor QB | GB

Browns' Tyrod Taylor: Expected to clear protocol in Week 4

Taylor is expected to clear the NFL's concussion protocol prior to the Browns' Week 4 game against the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

With the Browns trailing 14-0 late in the second quarter Thursday, Taylor sustained a head injury that resulted in him missing the rest of the contest. No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield took over under center and promptly led the Browns to a 21-17 victory, Cleveland's first in 635 days. Even though Taylor seems to be trending in the right direction, Mayfield's stellar performance off the bench will earn him his first career NFL start Week 4, resulting in Taylor assuming the backup role. In the event Taylor doesn't make the progress anticipated in his recovery from the concussion over the next week, Drew Stanton would slot in as Mayfield's top understudy.

  • Titans' Blaine Gabbert: Set to start Sunday

The Titans are planning to start Gabbert on Sunday against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Coach Mike Vrabel said Gabbert will remain the Titans' starting quarterback until Marcus Mariota (elbow) is healthy. Gabbert was 13 of 20 passing for 117 yards and one touchdown in last week's win over Houston.

  • P.J. Walker QB | SEA

Phillip Walker: Joins Colts' practice squad

Walker signed with Indianapolis' practice squad Saturday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.

Walker was cut by the Colts to begin the regular season. With Jacoby Brissett being the only backup on the Colts' active roster behind Andrew Luck, Walker would be a strong candidate for promotion were either quarterback to miss any time.

  • Tyrod Taylor QB | GB

Browns' Tyrod Taylor: Will give up starting job

Taylor is expected to yield the starting quarterback job to Baker Mayfield, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Coach Hue Jackson will wait until Monday to make the final decision, but his hand was essentially forced when Mayfield led the Browns to their first victory in 635 days Thursday versus the Jets. Taylor was knocked from the contest and diagnosed with a concussion with a little more than three minutes remaining in the second quarter, making him no guarantee to clear the protocol in time for a Week 4 matchup in Oakland on Sept. 30. Either way, Taylor is poised to move down the QB depth chart in the coming days.
