In reference to the Texans' QB situation, coach Bill O'Brien relayed Tuesday that Savage "is the starter," while adding that the 27-year-old signal-caller is "playing well this camp. He's got good command of our offense."

Given that Deshaun Watson was drafted 12th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, it's clear that he's destined to move into the starting role at some point down the road. At this stage, however, it appears as though the Texans are inclined to ease the rookie into the assignment, while initially having him work behind Savage, who was sharp in this past Saturday's preseason tilt against the Patriots. With the Texans' offense fueled by its running attack and complemented by a game-changing defense, Savage's fantasy ceiling in season-long formats is not particularly high, but as long as he holds on to the starting job, he'll be worth a look in daily contests at the right price.

Lynch will serve as the Broncos' backup quarterback to open the season after the team named Trevor Siemian its starter on Monday.

Despite spending most of his rookie campaign as an understudy to Siemien, Lynch was still unable to unseat the incumbent in his second NFL training camp. Although the 2016 first-round pick drew praise for his performance in shells, once the Broncos strapped on their pads, it was Siemian who prevailed in the competition. In the wake of Lynch losing out on the starting gig again, he'll need an injury to Siemian in order to approach fantasy relevance outside of dynasty formats.

Siemian was named the Broncos' starting quarterback Monday.

Siemian will open the season as the team's top signal caller for the second straight year after beating out Paxton Lynch for the gig. The 25-year-old has completed 14 of 18 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown through the Broncos' first two preseason contests. Upon being named starter, Siemian is now expected to play the majority of Saturday's third preseason contest against the Packers in what amounts to a dress rehearsal for the regular season. In his 14 games in 2016, Siemian finished with 3,401 passing yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The Broncos are expected to name Siemian as their starting quarterback Monday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph is expected to deliver the news when he meets with the media later Monday. Siemian will claim the gig over 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch. While Siemian doesn't posses Lynch's arm strength or athleticism, the 25-year-old is the more polished signal caller at this stage of their respective development curves. From a fantasy standpoint, Siemian's upside isn't especially high, but having talented wideouts Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders as his top two targets should help the quarterback's numbers.

Siemian appears to be ahead of Paxton Lynch in the competition for the starting quarterback and could be formally named the starter as soon as Monday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.

Siemian and Paxton Lynch have dueled for the second straight summer for the right to open the campaign as the Broncos' signal caller. Like last season, it appears Siemian is destined to earn that designation, as he's most closely met new coach Vance Joseph's criteria with his play thus far in training camp. In two preseason appearances, Siemian has completed 14 of 18 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, while Lynch has gone 15 for 22 for just 81 yards. Neither player has turned the ball over, but Siemian showed last season that he's quite capable of limiting mistakes, a trait Joseph values.

Stafford hasn't determined whether he'll continue to negotiate a contract extension once the regular season starts, ESPN's Michael Rothstein reports.

Stafford is entering the final year of his contract with the Lions and would become an unrestricted free agent next offseason if he's unable to reach terms on a new deal with the team. Unless progress is made within the next few weeks, Stafford's contract could become an issue heading into the regular season, and it's unclear whether he'd be willing to continue to negotiate or prefer to revisit discussions after the campaign.

Jones completed seven of 15 passes for 61 yards and threw a pick in Sunday's preseason loss to New Orleans.

Jones' interception in the closing moments of Sunday's game can be forgiven, considering he was backed up against his own end zone and facing fourth down. What is significantly less excusable is Jones breaking the cardinal rule of two-minute drills by taking back-to-back sacks, which cost the Chargers a total of 24 yards and put them in the aforementioned predicament. Jones' big arm makes him a very intriguing project for offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt to mold in his vertical scheme. Sunday showed, however, that while Kellen Clemens is far from spectacular, he's the safer backup to Philip Rivers at this point.

McCown (shoulder) didn't play in Saturday's preseason win against the Colts.

After serving solely as the holder during the Hall of Fame Game, McCown was less than inspiring in preseason Week 1 against the Rams, completing six of 13 passes for 31 yards with no touchdowns, no interceptions and two fumbles, one of which he lost. He suffered the injury in the latter outing and has subsequently been held out of practice. Because Kellen Moore has underwhelmed as well during exhibition season, undrafted rookie Cooper Rush has staked his claim to a job with impressive performances, albeit against lesser competition late in games.

Petty completed 15 of 24 passes for 160 yards and one interception during Saturday's preseason loss to the Lions.

Petty, who played the entire second half, looked much more comfortable leading the offense than Christian Hackenberg did in the first half. Then again, Petty played against the Lions' backups, while Hackenberg mostly went up against first-team players. While it's dangerous to draw too many conclusions from preseason, Saturday's game simply confirmed what the Jets probably already knew: Josh McCown will give them the best chance to win games in 2017.

Dobbs completed 10 of 19 passes for 70 yards and a pick in Sunday's preseason win over Atlanta.

With Ben Roethisberger and Landry Jones both nursing injuries, Dobbs got the start for a second straight exhibition on Sunday. While the final product wasn't inspiring, he showed good pocket mobility and had a nice 23-yard strike to Martavis Bryant. Dobbs, recently removed from Tennessee's spread attack, is likely a developmental prospect that won't see the field any time soon. On the other hand, Pittsburgh is just two seasons removed from having to turn to a third-string quarterback, a product of Roethlisberger's style of play and expansive injury history.
