Hackenberg completed 18 of 25 passes for 127 yards during Saturday's preseason win over the Titans.

Josh McCown got the start and threw a touchdown on his lone series, and while Hackenberg couldn't get the Jets into the end zone, it was still a decent performance that could have been better if not for a few dropped passes. Hackenberg still seems stuck behind McCown on the depth chart, but he's shoring up his spot as the backup ahead of Bryce Petty, who was just 2-of-6 for 16 yards.

The Bills dealt Taylor's teammate Sammy Watkins to the Rams on Friday, but acquired veteran Jordan Matthews in a separate deal with the Eagles.

Taylor is an intriguing fantasy play because of his ability to pick up points on the run, plus he should be allowed to do more in Rick Dennison's new offense. However, a lot is being thrown at Taylor, who the Bills have yet to make a long-term commitment to. Each of the top six wide receivers on the team are new, with only Anquan Boldin having any familiarity at all with Taylor stemming from when the latter backed up Joe Flacco in Baltimore. The Bills are clearly in rebuild mode, so Taylor better prove to be an asset quickly or the team could start taking a look at someone like Nathan Peterman if the playoffs get out of reach. Taylor still offers upside and is the clear-cut starter, but it would certainly help if he starts the season off strong and the Bills at least remain competitive.

Mahomes took the second-string reps at Sunday's practice, Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star reports.

Mahomes completed seven of nine passes for 49 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game against San Francisco, while Tyler Bray completed five of eight passes for 63 yards and tossed a pick. The battle for the backup job probably isn't over, but it would be convenient for Kansas City if Mahomes beats out Bray, as the team could then get by with only two quarterbacks on the roster.

Mariota completed two of three passes for 15 yards and added a six-yard scramble in Saturday's preseason opener against the Jets.

The biggest takeaway from this one is that Mariota looked completely healthy after fracturing his fibula late last season, showing no hesitation about leaving the pocket against New York's fearsome pass rush. The third-year quarterback's workload should ramp up from the two drives he saw in this one as the preseason progresses.

Prescott won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, NFL Network's Alex Flanagan reports.

Like last week, the Cowboys will sit their key offensive players, leaving Prescott to watch from the sidelines along with Dez Bryant, Ezekiel Elliott, Cole Beasley and Jason Witten. In turn, Kellen Moore, Luke McCown and Cooper Rush will divvy up the QB reps Saturday.

Tannehill (knee) was officially placed on injured reserve Saturday, Alain Poupart of the Dolphins' official site reports.

After taking the time to consider all of his options, Tannehill evidently opted to undergo season-ending surgery to repair the partially torn ACL in his left knee. Fortunately, head coach Adam Gase said he "absolutely" expects the quarterback to be ready in time for the 2018 campaign. The freshly signed Jay Cutler is expected to take over as the starting QB in Tannehill's place, with Matt Moore staying put in the No. 2 role.

Lynch looked more comfortable working through his reads during Saturday's practice, Cecil Lammey of 104.3 The Fan reports.

Lynch has lost all of the momentum he gained late in minicamp and early in training camp in large part because he's been a tick slow in his recognition. On Saturday, the 2016 first-rounder was reportedly aggressive against the first-team defense, making some quality throws along the way. Depending on who you talk to, the Broncos' quarterback competition might have already been won by Trevor Siemian. If there is a crack in the doorway, however, Saturday's practice might be the jump-start Lynch needs.

Shaw (lower leg) made his return to practice after missing just over a week, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.

Shaw had a screw removed from a prior surgery to his leg, but he's back on the field. Unless the Bears suffer an injury at quarterback, he likely won't make the regular-season roster, as he's currently fourth on the depth chart.

Dalton completed four of five passes for 38 yards with no touchdowns and an interception in Friday's 23-12 preseason win over the Bucs.

As expected, Dalton wasn't in the game for long, but did have an opportunity to get time in with top target A.J. Green and share some snaps with rookie RB Joe Mixon. Dalton spread the ball around on his one possession, connecting with Green, Tyler Eifert and Brandon LaFell before tossing an interception at the Bucs' one-yard line on a pass intended for the latter. The 29-year-old signal caller will look to build on the second 4,200-yard season of his career in the coming campaign and figures to play the entirety of the first quarter at a minimum against the Chiefs next Saturday.

Beathard completed 7 of 11 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns (no interceptions) in Friday's preseason win over Kansas City.

The rookie signal caller flashed the poise and accuracy that led to the 49ers' front office drafting the Iowa product above his projected rank. Preseason results should always be taken with a grain of salt, but Beathard's quick progression during training camp has landed him in competition with Matt Barkley for the backup job in San Francisco.
