  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Not expected to play Thursday

Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram suggests that Prescott is among the key Dallas players not expected to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Cardinals.

No real surprise here, as this is the time of year where key NFL starters such as Prescott often receive little-to-no playing time in early preseason contests. Added reps for second-string QB Kellen Moore are thus on tap Thursday.

  • Ryan Tannehill QB | TEN

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Conflicting reports on knee injury

In the wake of an earlier report suggesting that Tannehill avoided structural damage in his left knee, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald relays that the QB's MRI on Thursday initially proved inconclusive in terms of revealing the full extent of Tannehill's injury.

Per Salguero, Tannehill's MRI requires further scrutiny, a scenario that neither confirms or refutes the previously-noted "no structural damage" outcome. While additional info is gathered/reported, we'll continue to view Tannehill as day-to-day, with the caveat that his injury prognosis could potentially worsen.

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Report; no structural damage in knee

The knee injury Tannehill suffered Thursday reportedly did not result in any structural damage, Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network reports.

Tannehill's knee did buckle during Thursday's practice, but he appears to have avoided a worst-case scenario. The QB could still miss some time as a result of Thursday's injury scare, but at this stage we'll consider him day-to-day unless evidence to the contrary surfaces.

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: MRI on tap

Tannehill (left knee) is slated to undergo an MRI on Thursday, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

The report suggests that, at a minimum, the QB hyper-extended his left knee, while adding that there is also the possibility of PCL damage. It's unclear if any additional ligaments might have been compromised, but Tannehill's Thursday injury is concerning, given that his 2016 season ended with with ligament issues in the very same knee. Veteran Matt Moore is locked in as Tannehill's top backup, with Brandon Doughty and David Fales in reserve, but if Tannehill's injury requires a recovery of anything more than modest length, the team may consider adding another experienced signal-caller.

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Concerns teammates with leg injury

While the team didn't provide any details after Thursday's practice, Dolphins players clearly were concerned about Tannehill's left leg injury, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.

Tannehill walked off the practice field under his own power, but there's still major concern due to the location of the injury. He missed the end of last season with a partially torn ACL in his left leg -- an injury he ultimately treated with stem cell therapy instead of surgery. Despite assurances the knee is healed, Tannehill plans to wear a brace throughout training camp and into the season, seemingly acknowledging that there's a risk of re-injury. With no update provided by the team at the conclusion of Thursday's practice, we'll have to wait to find out if he did indeed re-injure the same ligament.

Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill: Exits Thursday's practice early

Tannehill was forced to leave Thursday's practice early after suffering a non-contact leg injury, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

Tannehill's awkward fall occurred on a scramble to the sideline during team drills, but the quarterback was ultimately able to leave the field slowly under his own power. The severity of the injury is unknown, and he was immediately replaced by Matt Moore. The left knee injury that kept Tannehill out for the latter portion of the Dolphins' 2016 campaign hasn't been an issue throughout training camp, but he's now dealing with another left leg injury that could put his availability in jeopardy.

  • Lions' Matthew Stafford: Works with private coach in offseason

Stafford worked with a private QB coach for the first time in his professional career this offseason, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "I just think I want what's best for this team, I want what's best for me as a player," Stafford said. "If I play well our team's going to play well. It just goes into preparation and doing everything you possibly can."

Stafford reportedly worked with Tom House's 3DQB in Southern California, a group Birkett said focuses on fine-tuning the mechanics of quarterback play. House's other clients include Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Matt Ryan. It isn't clear why Stafford abstained from seeking this kind of counsel in the past, but one would think it could only benefit him in the long run.

  • Deshaun Watson QB | CLE

Texans' Deshaun Watson: Earning high praise in camp

Texans coach Bill O'Brien said on Tuesday that Watson is "ahead of any rookie quarterback I've been around."

Just days after Watson was reportedly looking the part of a rookie at camp, he earned lofty praise from his head coach. O'Brien didn't get too in-depth when praising his team's first-round pick, but his comments suggest that Watson could begin to challenge Tom Savage for the starting nod sooner rather than later.

  • Trevor Knight QB | ATL

Cardinals' Trevor Knight: In line to play second half Thursday

Knight will play the second half of Thursday's Hall of Fame Game versus the Cowboys, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Knight is merely a camp body in Arizona, but head coach will give veterans Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton that evening off, handing the keys of the offense to the remaining reserve quarterbacks. After Blaine Gabbert takes on first-half duty, Knight will take over in the second half. In four seasons between Oklahoma and Texas A&M, Knight completed 55.5 percent of his passes, averaged 167 yards per game and tallied a 44:26 TD:INT ratio in 35 contests.

  • Bryce Petty QB | MIA

Jets' Bryce Petty: Falling behind in QB competition

Petty appears to have fallen behind Josh McCown and Christian Hackenberg in the Jets' quarterback competition, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports.

Petty's standing on the team was clear Tuesday, as the 2015 fourth-rounder only received nine reps during team drills compared to 27 for McCown and 18 for Hackenberg. This isn't much of a surprise since McCown and Hackenberg have seemingly been considered the only two legitimate contenders for the job all along. In fact, on the last year of his rookie contract, Petty could be on the roster bubble.
