The Jets are on the verge of trading for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in exchange for a late-round draft pick, reports the New York Daily News on Wednesday. A Fitzpatrick trade could happen as soon as free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer signs with the Texans.

Fitzpatrick has ties to Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. He played under Gailey for three seasons with the Bills (2010-2012). He went 16-29 as a starter with 71 touchdowns and 67 turnovers under Gailey in Buffalo.

Quarterback Tyrod Taylor is visiting with the Bills, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The former Ravens backup quarterback did not throw a pass last year for the first time in his career.

Taylor, 25, has never started a game since being drafted in 2011.

Quarterback Blaine Gabbert has been re-signed by the 49ers, according to ESPN. The contract is a two-year deal worth $2 million. 

Gabbert, the first overall draft pick of the Jaguars in 2011, was the backup quarterback to Colin Kaepernick last season.

The 25-year-old is entering his fifth season in the NFL.

Quarterback Blaine Gabbert is "staying in San Francisco," ESPN reports.

Gabbert was drafted in the first round in 2011 by the Jaguars but traded to the 49ers for a late-round pick last offseason. He played in just one game with the team in 2014, going 3 for 7 for 38 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles announced Tuesday that the team has acquired quarterback Sam Bradford and a 2015 fifth-round pick from the Rams in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles, a 2015 fourth-round pick and a 2016 second-round pick.

Bradford has dealt with major knee injuries in back-to-back seasons, missing all of 2014 and playing just seven games in 2013. He has completed 58.6 percent of his career passes while racking up 59 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. The Eagles have not approached the quarterback about a new contract, CBSSports.com NFL Insider Jason La Canfora reports, leaving Bradford on track to reach free agency in 2016.

Foles shined in his first season in Chip Kelly's offense in 2013, recording a 27:2 TD:INT ratio and completing 64 percent of his passes. He regressed last season, completing 59.8 percent of his passes while throwing for 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in eight games.

The Rams are close to trading quarterback Sam Bradford to the Eagles for quarterback Nick Foles, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The deal involves an exchange of 2015 draft picks, plus conditional picks in 2016, according to beat writer Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It does not involve a swap of first-round picks, Thomas added.

Bradford has played just seven games over the past two seasons due to devastating knee injuries. He's scheduled to make $13 million in 2015.

Foles was so-so in eight games last season after a breakout 2013 in which he threw 27 touchdowns against two interceptions. He's scheduled to earn $1.5 million in 2015.

Case Keenum is headed back to the Rams, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Houston traded Keenum back to St. Louis for a seventh-round pick in 2016, per league sources. Terms of the trade were not finalized. 

Keenum was claimed by the Rams before the start of the 2014 season. He was then waived by St. Louis on Oct. 28 before rejoining Houston at the end of the year. The Rams reportedly sent Sam Bradford to the Eagles for Nick Foles just minutes before acquiring Keenum from the Texans. It appears as if Keenum will back up Foles to start the season.

Keenum passed for 435 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in 2014 with the Texans.

The Texans released quarterback Thad Lewis, who did not play last season, reports ESPN.com. Houston has re-signed quarterback Ryan Mallett and is expected to sign quarterback Brian Hoyer on Tuesday.

With quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick looking like the odd man out in Houston, he will "jump to the top of the Jets' list after he's inevitably released," reports the New York Daily News. Fitzpatrick, 32, played for Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey in Buffalo.

Houston would clear $3.2 million in cap space by cutting Fitzpatrick. The Texans have re-signed quarterback Ryan Mallett and are said to be on the verge of signing quarterback Brian Hoyer, making Fitzpatrick expendable.

The Texans re-signed quarterback Ryan Mallett to a two-year, $7 million deal, reports the Houston Chronicle. Mallett is expected to compete with Brian Hoyer, who is set to sign with Houston on Tuesday, the paper said.

The signings make quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick expendable. Releasing Fitzpatrick would free up $3.2 million in cap space, the paper noted.

Mallett threw for 400 yards in three games last season, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Both Mallett and Hoyer played for Texans coach Bill O'Brien when he was an offensive assistant with the Patriots.
