Taylor Heinicke QB | LAC
Chargers' Taylor Heinicke: Gets limited work as backup
Heinicke saw spot duty in four regular-season games in 2024, completing three of five pass attempts for 28 yards and also rushing two times for 20 yards.
Heinicke's lack of work was expected, as long as the Chargers' starting quarterback, Justin Herbert remained healthy. The 31-year-old joined the franchise late in training camp due to a trade with the Falcons and ultimately won the backup job from Easton Stick. With Heinicke set to be an unrestricted free agent, he may find himself in a different uniform next season.

Carson Wentz QB | MIN
Chiefs' Carson Wentz: Makes one start in 2024
Wentz finished the 2024 regular season completing 12 of 19 passes for 118 yards while logging zero rushing yards on three carries across three games (one start).
Wentz signed a one-year, $3.33 million contract with the Chiefs in April 2024 after spending the second half of the 2023 campaign with the Rams. He came in relief for Patrick Mahomes in Weeks 7 and 15, but Wentz was named the starter for Week 18 against the Broncos after the Chiefs locked in the AFC's No. 1 seed after beating the Steelers in Week 17. It was an unimpressive outing for Wentz, who completed 10 of 17 passes for 98 yards in a 38-0 blowout loss. The 2016 second overall pick enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, and it remains to be seen whether he sticks around in Kansas City to continue to serve as the No. 2 QB or explore his options elsewhere.

Zach Wilson QB | NO
Broncos' Zach Wilson: Doesn't play in 2024
Wilson did not appear in a single regular-season game in 2024.
Wilson spent the past three seasons with the Jets, who selected him with the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Broncos in late April and was given a chance to earn the starting quarterback job in training camp, which he and Jarrett Stidham eventually lost to rookie Bo Nix. Wilson served as the Broncos' emergency quarterback and did not see the field during the regular season or in Denver's lone playoff game against Buffalo. The Broncos opted to decline Wilson's team option for 2025, which means he will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, though he'll likely end up serving as the No. 2 quarterback at best wherever he ends up signing.

Jarrett Stidham QB | DEN
Broncos' Jarrett Stidham: Logs four rushes in 2024
Stidham did not attempt a throw across four regular-season games in 2024 but did register four carries for five yards.
Stidham spent the entire 2024 campaign as the Broncos' backup quarterback after losing out to Bo Nix for the starting job during training camp. All of his appearances came in relief, and the most snaps he played (nine) was Week 18 against the Chiefs. Stidham is an unrestricted free agent and will likely serve as the QB2 wherever he ends up signing.

Jake Browning QB | TB
Bengals' Jake Browning: Works only in mop-up duty in 2024
Browning didn't throw a pass over three regular-season games in 2024. He rushed twice for minus-2 yards.
A season-ending injury to Joe Burrow in Week 11 of 2023 gave Browning an opportunity for substantial playing time, but Burrow remained healthy throughout 2024, and Browning consequently spent almost the entire campaign on the bench. Browning signed a two-year contract with Cincinnati last April, so he's slated to work as Burrow's backup again next season.

Josh Johnson QB | CIN
Ravens' Josh Johnson: Throws three passes in 2024
Johnson played in six regular-season games in 2024, completing two of three passes for 17 yards while netting one yard on four carries.
All of Johnson's work came in brief appearances in relief of Lamar Jackson, as he didn't log more than 10 offensive snaps in any game. The veteran signal-caller did see his most work since 2021, but that doesn't change his outlook as a career backup. Johnson is set to become a free agent, and there's been some speculation that he could elect to hang up his cleats.

Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT
Jets' Aaron Rodgers: New York officially moving on
The Jets officially informed Rodgers on Thursday that the team will be "moving in a different direction at quarterback."
Rodgers' tenure in New York comes to a conclusion after two years as a starter, with his first year having been limited to a mere handful of regular-season snaps before the storied veteran suffered an Achilles tear. The Jets' decision to move on was anticipated, but making the announcement official early in the offseason could make it easier for the 41-year-old quarterback to find an alternate opportunity. Rodgers has one season remaining on the three-year contract he signed with the Jets in July 2023, which positions New York for a cap hit of $49 million in dead money if he were to be released. If he were cut with a post-June 1 designation, the team could opt to more flexibly split up his $49 million in dead money over the next two seasons. Rodgers racked up a solid 3,897 passing yards, with a 28:11 TD:INT, across 17 regular-season appearances in 2024.

Dak Prescott QB | DAL
Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Recovery proceeding well
Prescott (hamstring) said Wednesday his "health is good," and noted that he's "really looking to amp it up here recently" in terms of his rehab process, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Prescott added that he is now "12 weeks or so" removed from his season-ending surgical procedure, which he underwent in November to address a torn right hamstring. The 31-year-old quarterback indicated that his rehab program is moving in a positive direction, and his expected recovery timeframe leaves open the possibility that Prescott could be fully cleared for the beginning of OTAs. Prescott also expressed excitement about new head coach Brian Schottenheimer's offensive approach, singling out a commitment to the running game and increased play-action as improvements being brought to the Dallas offense. His numbers were underwhelming across his eight appearances in 2024 with 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, so Prescott's fantasy outlook for the 2025 campaign will depend both on his returning to full health and Schottenheimer's ability to innovate on offense.

Chris Oladokun QB | KC
Chiefs' Chris Oladokun: Inks future deal with Kansas City
Kansas City signed Oladokun to a reserve/future contract Tuesday, Charles Goldman of A to Z sports reports.
After failing to make the team's 53-man roster at the end of training camp, Oladokun was invited back by Kansas City in mid-October to join the practice squad. He was elevated for Week 18 against the Broncos to serve as the backup quarterback behind Carson Wentz while Patrick Mahomes rested. Oladokun will participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp but seems highly unlikely to win the No. 2 quarterback job behind Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes QB | KC
Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Throws two picks in Super Bowl loss
Mahomes completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while taking four rushing attempts for 25 yards and a lost fumble in Sunday's 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
Mahomes was stifled for nearly three quarters in Super Bowl LIX before completing the first of three garbage-time touchdowns with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter of Sunday's one-sided affair. The 28-year-old superstar saw his hopes of a potential third consecutive Super Bowl title erode away with each ensuing unsuccessful offensive drive against a ferocious unit led by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Mahomes saw a decline in total production in 2024 despite earning the top seed in the AFC, but he maintained a respectable 26:11 TD:INT in 16 starts in the regular season. The Chiefs will look to regroup following a disappointing showing on the national stage and bring in more talent to surround Mahomes for the upcoming 2025 campaign.
