  • Jerome Ford RB | WAS

Browns' Jerome Ford: Logs limited practice

Ford was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday due to a knee injury, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Even with the benefit of a Week 5 bye, Ford is apparently banged up as the Browns begin preparing for Sunday's matchup with the 49ers. The Browns' lead back has two more chances to upgrade to full participation and thus avoid taking an injury designation into the weekend.

  • Cardinals' Keaontay Ingram: Logs another limited session

Ingram (neck) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Dating back to last week, Ingram has been listed as a limited participant on three consecutive injury reports due to a neck issue. He may need to get back to full activity before the Cardinals feel comfortable clearing him for game action, as he's sat out two straight contests. Still, head coach Jonathan Gannon told Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com on Wednesday that the team expects Ingram to play Sunday at the Rams. If Ingram is able to do so, he could get the first chance to start for James Conner (knee) during the latter's stint on injured reserve, especially considering Ingram currently is listed as the No. 1 back on Arizona's depth chart. Aside from Ingram, the other candidates for backfield reps are undrafted rookie Emari Demercado, Tony Jones and practice-squad members Damien Williams and Corey Clement.

  • Commanders' Chris Rodriguez: Off injury report

Rodriguez (illness) was not listed on Washington's injury report Wednesday.

Rodriguez missed Washington's past two games with an illness, but it now looks like he should be good to go for Week 6. Through three games this season, he's seen just three carries for seven yards.

  • Broncos' Jaleel McLaughlin: Stuck in crowded backfield

McLaughlin is expected to face more competition for reps out of the backfield Thursday against the Chiefs with Javonte Williams (hip) set to enter the Week 6 contest without an injury designation, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.

McLaughlin thrived with Williams out for the Week 5 loss to the Jets and for much of the Week 4 win over Chicago, piling up 193 yards and two touchdowns on 22 touches in the past two contests while sharing backfield snaps with Samaje Perine. As impressive as the undrafted rookie has been, he won't be guaranteed to garner more than a handful of touches with both Williams and Perine back in the fold Thursday. McLaughlin at least seemed to move ahead of Perine in the pecking order for carries even before Williams' hip injury, with Perine largely resigned to playing in passing situations.

  • Rashaad Penny RB | CAR

Eagles' Rashaad Penny: Full practice after illness

Penny (illness) was a full practice participant Wednesday.

Penny was a late addition to the Eagles' Week 5 injury report Saturday due to an illness, which left him doubtful to suit up Sunday at the Rams. He was ultimately inactive for the third time in five games to begin the campaign, which seemingly will be his fate as long as the rest of Philadelphia's backfield members are healthy. With all of D'Andre Swift, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott avoiding Wednesday's practice report, another absence may be in store for Penny this Sunday at the Jets.

  • Kene Nwangwu RB | NYJ

Vikings' Kene Nwangwu: No limitations in practice

Nwangwu (back) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Designated for return from injured reserve earlier in the day, Nwangwu ended up taking part in his first practice of the regular season without any limitations. He may be back for Sunday's game against Chicago but isn't likely to have much of a role on offense, if any, behind Alexander Mattison and Cam Akers. Instead, Nwangwu will likely make his biggest impact on special teams, after he was a second-team All-Pro selection in 2022 thanks to his prowess as a kickoff returner.

  • 49ers' Elijah Mitchell: Still not practicing

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Mitchell (knee) won't practice Wednesday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Mitchell has missed the last two games due to a knee injury, and his inability to practice to kick off Week 6 prep could mean another absence is on the horizon this Sunday in Cleveland. As long as Mitchell is sidelined, Jordan Mason will be next in line to absorb any snaps and touches that don't go to the 49ers' top running back, Christian McCaffrey.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

Dolphins' Jeff Wilson: Limited in first practice

Wilson (ribs/finger) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.

Wilson practiced for the first time this season after he was designated for return from injured reserve earlier Wednesday. The transaction opens up a 21-day window for the Dolphins to evaluate him for a return to the 53-man roster, and Sunday's game against the Panthers marks the earliest opportunity for Wilson to potentially play. If activated ahead of the Week 6 matchup, Wilson would likely slide into the No. 2 running back role behind Raheem Mostert, with De'Von Achane (knee) headed for IR. After coming over to Miami in a midseason trade with San Francisco in 2022, Wilson averaged 4.7 yards per carry and accounted for four touchdowns in eight games with the Dolphins.

  • Giants' Gary Brightwell: Limited practice to start week

Brightwell (ankle) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Brightwell was also limited at practice last week before ultimately suiting up to play in Week 5 at Miami, so that he wasn't a full go Wednesday is likely just maintenance related. He'll have two more chances to log a full practice Thursday and Friday before Sunday's game at Buffalo.

  • Broncos' Javonte Williams: Good to go for Thursday

Williams (quadricep) doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game in Kansas City, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.

Williams was inactive for this pat Sunday's loss to the Jets after being listed as a full practice participant Friday, but he'll get the green light to play Week 6 after full sessions Tuesday and Wednesday. He should step back in as the lead runner, albeit with Jaleel McLaughlin as a threat to steal carries and Samaje Perine as a strong candidate for some of the passing-down snaps. Prior to sitting out Week 5, Williams averaged 12 carries for 46 yards and 2.7 catches for 14 yards over the first three weeks of the season, handling snap shares ranging between 42 and 45 percent in each contest. A larger role is possible as the season progresses and Williams is further removed from last year's ACL tear, though McLaughlin's impressive performance to date will also be a factor.
