  • Mike Gesicki TE | CIN

Dolphins' Mike Gesicki: Ready for key role

Coach Adam Gase confirmed that Gesicki is primed for a major role, Jason Lieser of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Gesicki got the start in each of Miami's first three preseason games and didn't play at all in the final contest. It's a strong hint he'll enter Week 1 as the starter, despite catching just one pass for 10 yards during the preseason. The track record of rookie tight ends turning in viable fantasy production isn't strong, but that's often related to a lack of playing time -- something that shouldn't be an issue in this specific case. Gesicki put up solid numbers at Penn State and displayed rare athleticism at the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, with his prospect profile hinting at first-round status if not for his struggles as a blocker. The No. 42 overall pick will start his career with a Week 1 home game against Tennessee.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Cleared for practice

Kittle (shoulder) returned to practice Saturday, Mat Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

After separating his right shoulder in the first week of the preseason, Kittle seems to be on track for full participation when the Niners release their initial injury report for Week 1 on Wednesday. The second-year pro is expected to serve as the team's top pass-catching option at tight end, though he may share snaps with Garrett Celek in the season opener against Minnesota.

  • Blake Bell TE | KC

Vikings' Blake Bell: Waived by Minnesota

Bell was waived by the Vikings on Saturday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Bell struggled to leapfrog Tyler Conklin and David Morgan for a reserve tight end spot in Minnesota. Bell's best chance to make the roster came via special teams, but at the end of the day there's only 53 spots available for the regular season. If he clears waivers, Bell could be asked to the practice squad.

  • Austin Traylor TE | DET

    Austin Traylor: Cut by Denver

Traylor was let go by the Broncos on Saturday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic Denver reports.

Traylor found himself stuck behind the likes of Jeff Heuerman and Jake Butt on the depth chart as cut down day loomed. With Denver's decision to draft Troy Fumagalli, the writing on the wall became ever-apparent for Traylor.

  • Hunter Henry TE | NE

Chargers' Hunter Henry: Staying on PUP list

Henry (knee) will be on the PUP list to start the season, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Henry tore an ACL on May 22 and is an extreme long shot to play this season, but the Chargers aren't quite ready to shut the door on the possibility. There's a good chance he's moved to injured reserve at some point, as even a deep playoff run would put him at just eight months removed from the initial injury. The Chargers are left with one of the weaker TE groups in the league, led by offseason acquisition Virgil Green.

  • Rico Gathers TE | DAL

Cowboys' Rico Gathers: Makes final roster

Gathers made the Cowboys' 53-man roster, Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Gathers emerged from the preseason with 10 catches (on 13 targets) for 83 yards, finally fulfilling some of the potential that's been promised. He threw a wrench into his potential to make the team, though, with Friday's arrest for marijuana possession. While he was able to post bond Saturday morning, the question remained whether Gathers would make the roster. Indeed, he has, but he may be subject to the NFL's personal conduct policy with the transgression.

  • Seahawks' Darell Daniels: Traded from Indy to Seattle

Daniels was traded to the Seahawks from the Colts on Saturday in exchange for wide receiver Marcus Johnson, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.

The two teams both addressed relative areas of weakness, giving Daniels a shot to stick around on an NFL roster early in the season. He'll still be low on the depth chart and could be expandable in the coming weeks.

  • Jevoni Robinson: Waived/injured by Houston

Robinson (undisclosed) was waived/injured by the Texans on Saturday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle

Robinson was activated off the PUP list in mid-August, and by that point, his chances of making the Texans' final roster were essentially gone. Robinson will likely revert to Houston's injured reserve once he clears waivers.

  • Marcus Lucas TE | SEA

    Marcus Lucas: Snipped by Detroit

The Lions cut Lucas on Saturday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Lucas entered the NFL in 2014 but has yet to suit up for a game. He should be seen as a practice squad candidate.

  • Evan Engram TE | DEN

Giants' Evan Engram: Trending toward Week 1 appearance

Engram (concussion) is expected to be healthy for Week 1 against the Jaguars, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Engram picked up the concussion in preseason Week 3 and was held out of the Giants' exhibition final Thursday. His progression through the protocol allowed him to get in some work on a side field this past week, but a return to practice in advance of Week 1 would pave the way for an appearance. His first chance to do so will be Wednesday, when the Giants' first injury report of the season will be posted.
