  • David Njoku TE | LAC

Browns' David Njoku: Still dropping passes

Njoku continues to struggle with drops early on during training camp, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

This has been a consistent theme for Njoku during the first week ofcamp, following a rookie campaign in which he was officially credited with three drops on 60 targets but also let a few other catchable passes slip away. The Browns would like to see him seize an every-down role as their No. 1 tight end, but Njoku probably doesn't offer enough impact as a blocker to make up for the inconsistency with his hands. While it sounds like his freakish athleticism hasn't outweighed his shortcomings, Njoku still has plenty of time to make a positive impression before Week 1. Darren Fells and Seth DeValve (thigh) are also competing for snaps at tight end.

  • Shane Wimann TE | NE

Shane Wimann: Let go by Patriots

Wimann was waived/injured by the Patriots on Tuesday with an undisclosed injury, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

Wimann signed with the team as an undrafted free agent back in May and will likely revert to the Patriots' injured reserve once he clears waivers.

  • Patriots' Jacob Hollister: Could help fill early season void

Hollister, who has displayed good hands this spring and summer, is making a case to emerge as a pass-catching option to pair at tight end with starter Rob Gronkowski, the Boston Herald reports.

With that in mind, given Julian Edelman is set to miss the first four games of the season due to a suspension, Hollister is a candidate to earn targets as a "move" tight end out of the gate when the team runs two-tight end packages. Either way, the 6-foot-4, 245-pound Hollister has more fantasy upside than veteran Dwayne Allen, who profiles more as a blocker. As long as Gronkowski is healthy, Hollister is only a deep-league consideration, even when Edelman is sidelined, but his is a name to file away in the event Gronkowski -- who has been no stranger to the injury report over his career -- is ever sidelined.

  • Jaguars' DeAndre Goolsby: Signed by Jacksonville

Goolsby signed a contract with the Jaguars on Tuesday, Mike Kaye of the First Coast News reports.

Goolsby, an undrafted rookie out of Florida, caught 13 passes for 105 yards and one score on 18 targets in six games with the Gators last season. He'll likely be considered a longshot to make the 53-man roster with Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Niles Paul at the top of the depth chart at tight end.

  • Ryan Hewitt TE | TEN

Bengals' Ryan Hewitt: Cleared to practice

Hewitt (undisclosed) was activated from the NFI list Monday and will be eligible to return to practice, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Hewitt was originally on the NFI list due to an undisclosed reason, but he's slated to return to training camp this week. He'll compete with Tyler Kroft and C.J. Uzomah for reps at tight end behind starter Tyler Eifert (back).

  • Logan Thomas TE | SF

Bills' Logan Thomas: Injured during Sunday's practice

Thomas (knee) appeared to have suffered an undisclosed injury during Sunday's practice, Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports.

The nature of Thomas' injury remains unclear, while Charles Clay is now the only healthy tight end with legitimate NFL experience on the Bills' roster as Nick O'Leary (foot/ankle) is also injured.

  • A.J. Derby TE | MIA

Dolphins' A.J. Derby: Misses practice with injury

Derby is dealing with a foot injury and missed Sunday's training camp session as a result, Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post reports.

Derby's foot issue doesn't appear to be serious at this point, but it's still a hiccup in his quest for the No. 1 spot at tight end. Mike Gesicki and MarQueis Gray have also been getting work with the starters.

  • Mark Andrews TE | BAL

Ravens' Mark Andrews: Misses another practice

Andrews (undisclosed) isn't practicing Monday, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

The rookie third-round pick previously missed some time at the beginning of training camp and has now sat out each of the last four days. The Ravens have described it as a muscle tissue injury, declining to elaborate on the location. Regardless of the exact issue, Andrews is off to a bad start in his bid to secure a role at a crowded position group. Incumbent starter Nick Boyle and rookie first-round pick Hayden Hurst are competing for the starting job, likely leaving Andrews, Maxx Williams, Vince Mayle and Nick Keizer to battle for depth jobs.

  • Austin Traylor TE | DET

    Broncos' Austin Traylor: Early surprise

The extent of Traylor's usage has been a surprise to start camp, Cecil Lammey of 104.3 The Fan reports.

This is a Broncos tight-end room with few established options. Jake Butt and Troy Fumagalli have yet to play an NFL snap, while Jeff Heuerman, a 2015 third-round pick, has yet to live up to his draft position in three seasons. Traylor, undrafted out of Wisconsin, actually played more offensive snaps (179 to 139) than Heuerman during the final five weeks of the 2017 season. Don't be surprised if Traylor finds a way to make the team.

  • David Njoku TE | LAC

Browns' David Njoku: Struggles with drops Sunday

Njoku dropped four passes during Sunday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

It's been a rough start to training camp for the second-year tight end. Njoku -- who dropped three passes during his rookie season -- is expected to take the bulk of the team's snaps at tight end after sharing the position with Seth DeValve (thigh) in 2017, though that could change if his hands become a constant issue. Njoku dropped a total of eight balls during his last two seasons of college for a 11 percent drop rate, so his problem securing the ball is nothing new, and it's something to keep an eye on as training camp continues.
