  • Kaden Smith TE | WAS

Commanders' Kaden Smith: Lands on injured reserve

Smith (undisclosed) was placed on IR on Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Smith joined the Commanders on Aug. 13 and it's not quite clear when he suffered the injury. However, the Stanford product may now miss the entirety of the 2023 campaign unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team.

  • Brandon Dillon TE | WAS

Commanders' Brandon Dillon: Lands on IR

Dillon (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Dillon's injury details are unknown but unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team, he'll miss the 2023 campaign.

  • Zach Gentry TE | LV

Zach Gentry: Parts ways with Pittsburgh

The Steelers released Gentry on Tuesday.

Gentry spent the last four years in Pittsburgh after being selected by the team in the fifth round of the 2019 draft. He topped 100 yards in each of the past two seasons but had a quiet preseason in 2023 and was unable to make the team's 53-man roster.

  • Sean McKeon TE | IND

    Sean McKeon: Cut by Dallas

The Cowboys waived McKeon on Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

McKeon appeared in 13 games for Dallas last year, securing two of three targets for 11 yards. The 2020 undrafted tight end out of Michigan played in 36 contests over the past three years, so it's surprising to see him cut, especially given Dalton Schultz left this offseason and John Stephens tore his ACL during training camp. Gehlken notes that Dallas hopes to sign McKeon to a practice-squad deal if he clears waivers.

  • Josh Pederson TE | JAC

    Josh Pederson: Waived by Jacksonville

The Jaguars waived Pederson on Tuesday, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.

Pederson played 10 snaps (eight offensive) during the Jaguars' preseason finale but didn't see a target. The 2021 undrafted tight end out of Louisiana Monroe has yet to play in a regular-season game and will likely have to settle for a practice-squad deal if he clears waivers.

  • Anthony Firkser: Cut by New England

The Patriots released Firkser on Tuesday, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.

Firkser was looking to carve out a depth role behind Hunter Henry and Mike Gesicki (shoulder), but he ultimately won't make New England's initial 53-man roster. The Harvard product has appeared in at least 11 games in each of his first five NFL seasons (four with Tennessee and one with Atlanta), so he figures to draw at least some attention in free agency but will likely have to settle for a practice-squad deal.

  • Eagles' Albert Okwuegbunam: Dealt to Philly

The Broncos traded Okwuegbunam to the Eagles on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

After reporters Tuesday morning said the tight end would be waived, the Broncos ultimately were able to deal him for a late-round 2025 pick swap instead. Okwuegbunam could share TE snaps with Jack Stoll if starter Dallas Goedert misses any time for the Eagles this year.

  • Tyler Mabry TE | CAR

Tyler Mabry: Doesn't make final cut

Mabry was waived by the Seahawks on Tuesday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.

Mabry has been in the Seattle organization for the last couple of seasons between the practice squad and active roster and suited up 10 times between 2021 and 2022. This move should finalize the Seahawks' tight-end room for 2023 with Noah Fant, Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson still on the roster. Mabry will likely be a practice squad candidate, according to Henderson.

  • Stephen Carlson: Gets cut loose

Carlson was waived by the Bears on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Carlson had injuries derail his career after spending 2019 and 2020 with the Browns. The Princeton product was working to bounce back with Chicago after agreeing to a deal with the team in May, but he ultimately came up short.

  • Jesse James TE | LV

    Jesse James: Set for release

The Saints are slated to release James (groin) on Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

James doesn't appear to have been released with an injury designation, which would indicate he's recovered from his groin issue and is healthy enough to sign with another team, should the opportunity arise. The veteran couldn't secure a roster spot in New Orleans' deep tight end room, but he could draw interest elsewhere.
