  • Jalin Hyatt WR | NYG

Giants' Jalin Hyatt: Minimal action in preseason opener

Hyatt caught his only target for no gain in Thursday's 14-3 preseason win over the Lions.

Hyatt's lone target came from Drew Lock (hip) on the opening drive. Rookie sixth overall pick Malik Nabers wasn't targeted at all on his 12 snaps in the game, so neither of the young speedsters made much of an impact Thursday. Hyatt's coming off a 373-yard rookie season, and the 2023 third-round draft pick is trying to carve out a larger role in 2024. The Giants' second preseason game will be next Saturday in Houston.

  • Ja'Lynn Polk WR | NO

Patriots' Ja'Lynn Polk: Three catches in preseason opener

Polk secured all three targets for 14 yards in the Patriots' 17-3 preseason win over the Panthers on Thursday.

Polk made his first professional catch for three yards with 4:41 remaining in the first quarter on a pass from Bailey Zappe, going on to add six- and five-yard grabs while playing deep into the second quarter. The second-round pick's debut performance was reminiscent of the consistency he's reportedly shown in training camp practices, and Polk should continue to see ample playing time in Week 2 of preseason against the Eagles next Thursday night.

  • Antoine Green WR | DET

Lions' Antoine Green: Suffers concussion Thursday

Green suffered a concussion in Thursday night's preseason loss to the Giants, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Green was injured on a block attempt in the second quarter. Prior to leaving, Green had reeled in all three of his targets for 13 yards. A seventh-round pick out of North Carolina last year, Green is trying to win a job behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams in Detroit's wide-open wideout group.

  • Malik Nabers WR | NYG

Giants' Malik Nabers: No targets in preseason debut

Nabers wasn't targeted in Thursday's 14-3 preseason win over the Lions.

Nabers played the first three drives of the Giants' preseason opener but didn't get any attention from Drew Lock, and the quarterback subsequently exited the game due to a hip injury. Per Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Nabers ran eight routes on his 12 snaps. The sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft may ramp up his participation in the next preseason game against the Texans, but it will be hard to evaluate Nabers until he shares the field with starting quarterback Daniel Jones, who may not play in the preseason as he recovers from a torn ACL suffered last November.

  • Jonathan Mingo WR | DAL

Panthers' Jonathan Mingo: Fails to corral sole target

Mingo failed to bring in his only target in the Panthers' 17-3 preseason loss to the Patriots on Thursday. He also rushed once for six yards.

The second-year pro's quest to secure the No. 3 receiver role with a strong preseason didn't exactly get off to a rousing start. Mingo has been making a strong impression during training camp practices and drew the start Thursday with Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette (foot) all sitting out, but he couldn't capitalize on his one opportunity while playing with Jack Plummer as his quarterback. Mingo did put some solid play on film as a rookie despite Bryce Young's struggles under center, however, so his spot in the wide receiver pecking order should remain stable heading into the team's second preseason game against the Jets on Aug. 17.

  • Ladd McConkey WR | LAC

Chargers' Ladd McConkey: Back on practice field

McConkey (lower body) returned to practice Thursday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

McConkey came up limping during Saturday's practice and left the field early before sitting out Sunday's session entirely. After a few days off, he was back on the field in uniform with a helmet on, but it's unclear if he's completely past the recent health concern. Once he is, McConkey will be operating with backup quarterback Easton Stick in the first-team offense for the foreseeable future while Justin Herbert tends to a plantar fascia injury.

  • Malik Nabers WR | NYG

Giants' Malik Nabers: Slated to play Thursday

Nabers is in line to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Lions, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

ESPN reported early Thursday that Nabers would be among a number of Giants starters to not suit up for the team's exhibition opener, but the rookie first-round pick indeed will be available for up to the entire first quarter. Nabers has been ripping it up since arriving in New York as the sixth overall pick back in April, and Thursday will mark his first game action in the NFL.

  • Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown: Not in uniform Thursday

St. Brown isn't suited up ahead of Thursday's preseason contest at the Giants, Justin Rogers of DetroitFootball.net reports.

The same can be said for fellow wide receivers Jameson Williams and Kalif Raymond, meaning Donovan Peoples-Jones, Tre'Quan Smith and Tom Kennedy likely will be the first wide receivers to get on the field for the Lions in their exhibition opener. St. Brown himself signed a lucrative four-year extension back in the spring on the heels of back-to-back 100-catch campaigns and career highs in receiving yards (1,515) and touchdowns (10) over 16 regular-season games in 2023.

  • Patriots' DeMario Douglas: Won't play Thursday

Douglas (hand) isn't slated to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Panthers, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reports.

While the Patriots are in line to play their healthy starters, Douglas has been wearing a red non-contact jersey in practice of late, as he manages what he has described as a minor hand injury. At this stage, Douglas' Week 1 status isn't in jeopardy, but it remains to be seen if he'll take the field next Thursday against the Eagles.

  • Adam Thielen WR | PIT

Panthers' Adam Thielen: Not playing Thursday

Thielen isn't in line to play in Thursday's preseason game in New England, Kassidy Hill of the Panthers' official site reports.

Carolina is sitting 33 players in its exhibition opener, namely QB Bryce Young, RBs Chuba Hubbard and Jonathon Brooks (knee), WRs Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette (foot) and TEs Tommy Tremble (hamstring) and Ian Thomas (calf). Thielen is expected to retain a key role out of the slot in his second campaign with the team after racking up 103 catches (on 137 targets) for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns in 17 regular-season contests in 2023.
