  • DK Metcalf WR | PIT

Seahawks' DK Metcalf: May not play Saturday

Metcalf is not likely to play in Saturday's preseason game against Denver, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Metcalf was doing a lot of work pregame, suggesting that may be the only action he sees on the night. The Seahawks announced that 22 players will not hit the field for the game, though didn't specify exactly who would be sidelined. Other strong candidates to sit out include Russell Wilson, Gerald Everett and Tyler Lockett.

  • Seahawks' D'Wayne Eskridge: Out for Saturday's game

Eskridge was seen working on the field before Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos but will not play, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Eskridge was activated from the PUP list Aug. 17 but will have to wait to make his professional debut. He's expected to be ready for Week 1 against the Colts, and his ability to return to practice in recent days is a positive sign in that regard. Eskridge will be competing for the third receiver role with Freddie Swain.

  • Nico Collins WR | HOU

Texans' Nico Collins: Sitting out Saturday

Collins will not play in Saturday's preseason game against Dallas, the Houston Chronicle reports.

It's not clear whether the rookie third-round pick is dealing with an injury, but nothing reported to this point gives reason to suspect it. With Brandin Cooks locked in as the WR1, Collins is competing with Chris Conley for the second outside wide receiver role while Keke Coutee and Anthony Miller likely fight for the slot receiver tasks in three-wide formations.

  • Broncos' Courtland Sutton: Likely sitting Saturday

Sutton (knee) is likely to sit out Saturday's preseason game against Seattle, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

Sutton previously declared that he would play in one of Denver's two remaining preseason games, so he evidently plans to suit up for the third one. According to Klis, the Broncos would prefer to play Sutton on a grass field rather than Seattle's turf. The Broncos play at home against the Rams in their preseason finale, so Sutton might test out his knee in that setting.

  • A.J. Brown WR | NE

Titans' A.J. Brown: Suits up Saturday

Brown (undisclosed) is in uniform for Saturday's preseason game against the Buccaneers, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

The wideout missed some practice time this past week, but it appears as though he's past the issue that limited him. How much action he sees Saturday remains to be seen, but it looks like Brown could potentially see some tune-up snaps against Tampa Bay as he continues to ready for Week 1 action.

  • Gabe Davis WR | BUF

Bills' Gabriel Davis: Gets more involved

Davis recorded three receptions on four targets for 29 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears.

Davis was held off the stat sheet in the team's preseason opener but got more involved in Saturday's contest. He showed a connection with Mitchell Trubisky, recording a reception of 13 yards and a pair of eight-yard catches. Davis is entering his second season in the NFL after posting a promising line of 35 receptions for 599 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie campaign. The team added Emmanuel Sanders this offseason, meaning Davis may find it difficult to take a big step forward in 2021.

  • Robbie Chosen WR | WAS

Panthers' Robby Anderson: Suited up Saturday

Anderson (hamstring) is dressed for Saturday's preseason game against Baltimore, Charlotte Observer writer Alaina Getzenberg reports.

Anderson had missed practice time with the hamstring and wasn't initially expected to play in Saturday's game, so it might be taken for a good sign that Anderson was allowed to dress for the game Saturday. He's still not guaranteed to play live snaps against Baltimore. If healthy Anderson will likely lock into the starting role opposite D.J. Moore, a role that could entail a big workload after catching 95 passes in 2020.

  • Damiere Byrd WR | BUF

    Bears' Damiere Byrd: Targeted twice

Byrd caught one pass for four yards in the Bears' 41-15 preseason loss to the Bills on Saturday.

Byrd was on the field at times with the first-team offense while Allen Robinson was sitting out, but with Andy Dalton unable to move the chains with any consistency, there weren't many targets to go around. Byrd is competing for a role as the team's No. 3 wide receiver as he comes off a career-high 604 yards with the Patriots last year.

  • Calvin Ridley WR | TEN

Falcons' Calvin Ridley: Sitting out preseason game

Ridley will not play in Saturday's preseason game against Miami, Scott Bair of the Falcons' official site reports.

The Falcons are resting many of their starters, and Ridley is as important as any. With Ridley inactive, the Falcons likely will take a longer look at backup receivers such as Olamide Zaccheaus, Christian Blake, Tajae Sharpe and Frank Darby.

  • Dazz Newsome WR | SF

Bears' Dazz Newsome: Catches first NFL pass

Newsome caught one pass for seven yards in the Bears' 41-15 preseason loss to the Bills on Saturday.

After being selected in the first round of this year's draft, Newsome made his Chicago debut and caught his only target while playing with the backups. He's competing for a roster spot, and there's a good chance he sees significant action in next week's final preseason game to determine his status going into the season.
