When asked about his future, Ferland (head) stated "I am feeling better, I wish I could come back, but I know where I'm at now health-wise. No I don't think I'll play professionally ever again. Definitely no contact ever again, I need to take care of myself," Rick Dhaliwal of TSN 1040 Vancouver reports.

Ferland suffered multiple concussions in 2019-20 before missing the entirety of the 2020-21 campaign, all but ending his professional playing career. The 2010 fifth-round pick will almost certainly remain on long-term injured reserve for the final two years of his contract rather than officially retiring, but he's played his last NHL shift. Ferland will end his career having racked up 60 goals, 134 points and 200 PIM in 335 games split between the Flames, Hurricanes and Canucks.
