Chiasson signed a professional tryout agreement with the Red Wings, per Ansar Khan of MLive.com on Wednesday. Chiasson had six goals and nine points in 20 contests with Detroit in 2023-24. He also recorded nine goals and 20 points in 29 AHL outings with Grand Rapids. The 33-year-old should be in the mix for a bottom-six spot.

Chiasson will now look for another chance in the NHL after failing to stick with Boston for the 2023-24 season. The 33-year-old winger tallied six goals, five coming on the power-play, and three assists in 20 games last year with Detroit.

Chiasson registered a power-play goal in Thursday's 7-6 shootout loss to the Sabres. Chiasson has six goals on 23 shots for an otherworldly shooting percentage (26.1) with the Wings. Granted, it's a small sample size at 16 games, but the veteran winger has seven of his nine points on the man advantage. It will be interesting to see if GM Steve Yzerman ultimately re-signs Chiasson given his instant success with the new club; otherwise, the team can let him walk as an unrestricted free agent this summer.
