Sekera announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday. Sekera is hanging up the skates after a 16-year career with the Sabres, Hurricanes, Kings, Oilers and Stars. The 36-year-old blueliner scored 51 goals and 253 points with 1,233 blocked shots across 842 games. In his final season, Sekera averaged 13:43 of ice time with four points in 32 games with Dallas.

Sekera scored a goal on two shots in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win over the Ducks. Sekera gave the Stars a short-lived 2-1 lead late in the third period. The 35-year-old was waived earlier in March, but he stayed with the big club as defensive depth. Sekera hadn't gotten on the scoresheet since Dec. 8, though he was more often out of the lineup in that span. The veteran defenseman has four points, 22 shots on net, 22 blocked shots, 14 hits and a minus-3 rating through 29 contests. He'll likely stay in the lineup until Esa Lindell (upper body) returns.

Sekera cleared waivers Friday, Bruce LeVine of Dallas Stars Radio reports. The veteran blueliner will remain with the Stars and likely draw into the lineup Saturday against the Islanders. Sekera has managed just three points in 24 games this year and hasn't done much else to move the fantasy needle, either.

Sekera was placed on waivers Thursday, per CapFriendly. Sekera hasn't played since Jan. 28 due to an illness, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him head to the minors to get back into game shape if he passes through waivers unclaimed. The 35-year-old vet has picked up three assists through 24 NHL appearances this season.

Sekera (illness) will join the Stars for their four-game road trip, Bruce LeVine of Dallas Stars Radio reports. In addition, the blueliner has been activated off injured reserve, per the NHL media site. Sekera last got onto the ice for Dallas back on Jan. 28 versus Washington. Even prior to his absence, the veteran defenseman was far from a lock for the lineup and may still serve as a healthy scratch from time to time. As such, Sekera shouldn't be expected to offer much in the way of fantasy value moving forward.
