Mike Ribeiro: Heading toward retirement
Mike Ribeiro could be forced to retire due to his struggles with alcoholism, according to his agent, Richard Labbe of La Presse reports.Ribeiro's agent Bob Perno revealed that the center had relapsed in his recovery from alcoholism, which is likely to end his 17-year NHL career. "He's not training and he's not on the ice anymore," Perno said. "There is not a single NHL team or even a European team that has called me to inquire about his services."

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Clears waivers, likely bound for AHL
Mike Ribeiro cleared waivers Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.Nashville Predators GM David Poile left some hockey fans in a frenzy with his decision to waive Ribeiro -- who is second on the team with 21 helpers in 46 games -- but the move actually isn't all that surprising with consideration to his $3.5 million cap hit. According to Adam Vingan of The Tennessean, the big club plans to assign the veteran pivot to AHL Milwaukee. This could be a prime opportunity to buy low on Ribeiro on the off-chance that he digs his way out of this less-than-ideal situation.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Placed on waivers
Mike Ribeiro was waived by the Nashville Predators on Friday, Adam Vingan of The Tennessean reports. After being a healthy scratch for the Predators' last three outings, the brass have decided to place Ribeiro on waivers. The center may be a long shot to be claimed -- despite his four goals and 21 helpers -- when you consider his $3.5 million cap hit. If he does clear, Nashville may decide to keep him up in the NHL, rather than immediately sending him to the minors. Besides, there are no guarantees Ribeiro would agree to report to AHL Milwaukee, which could create a whole new wrinkle to this saga.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Scratched again for Tuesday's game
Mike Ribeiro was a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Penguins. The veteran Ribeiro is lost in the shuffle in the Music City right now, and a change of scenery might do him some good. He is on pace for 43 points, which would be his lowest total since the 2002-03 season. As such, he is only worth a look in deeper fantasy pools at the moment.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Rebounds strongly following benching
Mike Ribeiro posted an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 OT loss to the Sabres.Ever since sitting out two games as a healthy scratch earlier this month, Ribeiro has responded with three assists in five games. So it looks like whatever message Preds coach Peter Laviolette was sending to the veteran pivot has been received loud and clear. Still, Ribeiro's lack of goal scoring this year remains a concern -- he has just four on the year and hasn't netted one in over a month. He's safe to activate for now, but Ribeiro remains a fringe fantasy option at best.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Scratched for second straight game
Mike Ribeiro was a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game Saturday against the Avalanche. After sitting out Thursday's game against the Bruins, Ribeiro once again found himself watching from the sideline versus the Avs. Currently on pace for the worst offensive season of his career with just 22 points in 41 games, it will be interesting to see if this two-game benching is temporary, or whether it marks the beginning of the end of Ribeiro's tenure in Nashville. For now, fantasy owners should be looking at alternatives to plug into their lineup until the situation is resolved one way or the other.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: On maintenance day Thursday
Mike Ribeiro will be a healthy scratch for Thursday's home contest with the Bruins, Adam Vingan of the Tennessean reports.Ribeiro has played in all 41 of the Nashville Predators' games this season, so he's likely just getting a maintenance day. The 36-year-old center may no longer reach 70-plus points like he did in his younger days but he's still racked up 22 (four goals, 18 assists) just halfway through the campaign. Fantasy owners may want to check on the Quebec native's status prior to the Preds' upcoming matchup with the Avalanche on Saturday, but there's no indication that he won't be a full go for that one.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Picks up two assists in win
Mike Ribeiro registered two helpers -- one on the power play -- during Friday's 4-0 win against the Blues.Ribeiro has been severely struggling, coming into Friday on a seven-game pointless streak. The 36-year-old was able to snap out of his funk for his third multi-point outing of December, and now has inspired confidence that he can return to being a consistent threat. Before the cold streak, Ribeiro had not gone more than two games without reaching the scoresheet this season.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Scoring slump hits five games
Mike Ribeiro entered the holiday break riding a five-game pointless streak, and has scored a goal just once in his past 16 games.Given his current pace, Ribeiro will be lucky to match the 50-point total he posted last season, and will more likely fall somewhere in the 40-45 point range. Unfortunately for Ribeiro, who becomes a free agent after this season, the Preds are unlikely to bring him back given his advancing age (36) and falling productivity. For now, he continues to center a line with Colin Wilson and Craig Smith, and is only worthy of fantasy attention in medium to deeper formats.

Predators' Mike Ribeiro: Tallies two more helpers Tuesday
Mike Ribeiro notched two assists -- one on the power play -- in Tuesday's win over Colorado. With an assist-heavy 17 points in 25 games, he's been surprisingly productive at age 36 despite a significant dip in ice time. He's certainly never been known as a sniper, but incredibly, Ribeiro's point total is close to catching up with his shot total -- with Tuesday's lone puck on net, he's now taken 20 shots on the season.
