Cody Goloubef was cut by the Habs on Friday but will report to AHL Laval on a minor-league-only deal.Goloubef hasn't appeared in an NHL game since the 21019-20 campaign which he split between Ottawa and Detroit. The defender was always a long shot to break into the 23-man roster for Montreal and was destined to return to the minors with the Rocket. Unless the club signs him to an NHL contract down the road, Goloubef won't be eligible for a call-up.

Cody Goloubef signed a professional tryout agreement with Montreal on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.Goloubef spent the entire 2020-21 campaign in the minors with AHL Belleville for which he garnered four goals and two assists in 31 appearances. The University of Wisconsin product was selected by the Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft but has only seen action in 160 NHL contests in which he has generated three goals and 22 helpers. Even if Goloubef does earn a deal from the Habs, he is unlikely to secure regular minutes in the lineup and figures to split time between the NHL and AHL.
