Joni Ortio: Signs with Swedish League team

Joni Ortio agreed to terms Wednesday on a one-year deal with Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League, Roger Millions of Sportsnet Calgary reports.Ortio made 22 appearances for the Flames last season, but was not given a qualifying offer after spending a portion of the year with AHL Stockton. The goaltender was unimpressive in either league, as he went 7-9-5 in the majors and 9-9-0 in the minors. In both cases, the 25-year-old posted a GAA above 2.75, further damping his fantasy value. Even if he can manage a return to the NHL -- and at this point, that seems like a long shot -- owners will want to wait for positive results before taking a flyer on the Finn.

Flames' Joni Ortio: Picks up rare win after offensive explosion

Joni Ortio saved 24 of 27 shots in Thursday's 7-3 victory over Vancouver.Ortio thought he had a game on his hands after the first period ended 2-2, but then Calgary's offense surprisingly exploded. With that type of production, the 24-year-old may have picked up a few more wins this year (he's at seven now) despite the .902 save percentage on the season. Disappointment and inconsistency haunts Ortio's campaign, although it's been a limited one.

Flames' Joni Ortio: Receives Thursday's starting nod

Joni Ortio will start in goal for the Calgary Flames' home finale Thursday against Vancouver, Roger Millions of Sportsnet Calgary reports.Thursday will mark Ortio's 22nd appearance of the 2015-16, something that the Flames likely didn't envision prior to the season. The team entered the season with three goalies on one-way deals, and only Karri Ramo had a semblance of a successful season. When Ramo went down for the year with a knee injury, a bulk of the Flames' goaltending duties fell on Ortio, and he has largely disappointed. Ortio's inconsistency makes him a difficult play in any fantasy format.

Flames' Joni Ortio: Still can't solve Kings in close loss

Joni Ortio allowed five goals on 26 shots in a 5-4 loss to the Kings on Tuesday.Ortio is now 0-3-0 against the Kings on the season, as he has just not been able to get over that Los Angeles hump. The loss now puts him at 2-3-0 in his last five starts. This game was just another poor showing in what has been a largely lackluster season for the 24-year-old.

Flames' Joni Ortio: In goal Tuesday

Joni Ortio gets the starting nod against the Kings on Tuesday, Aaron Vickers of NHL.com reports.Ortio will make his third consecutive start coming off his first shutout of the season. On the year, the netminder has put together a middling performance as he has registered a 6-9-4 record with a .908 save percentage. Given his inconsistency this season, you may want to look elsewhere for a goalie in your fantasy lineups.

Flames' Joni Ortio: Pitches shutout against Oilers

Joni Ortio faced the Oilers for the first time in his career Saturday, stopping all 28 shots he faced in a 5-0 win.It was also the first shutout of the season for Ortio, who has been playing fairly well of late. The 24-year-old is now 6-9-4 on the season with a .908 save percentage. The Calgary Flames don;t win often, but Ortio is a decent option right now if you want solid rate stats, as he's allowed two or fewer goals in three of his last four appearances.

Flames' Joni Ortio: Looking at Saturday start in Battle of Alberta

Since he was in the starter's net at morning skate, Joni Ortio is expected to be in the crease Saturday night, taking on the Oilers in Edmonton, Derek Willis of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.Ortio has only won five games through 19 showings, but the Finn thrives on the road. In eight appearances away from Calgary, Ortio has fashioned a 2.39 GAA. While that stat doesn't jump off the page, it's a stark contrast to the 3.00 GAA he's posted in front of the home crowd. The Oilers have the 26th-ranked offense, but the Calgary Flames are the worst defensive team in the league, making this a matchup to avoid altogether.

Flames' Joni Ortio: Set to start Thursday

Joni Ortio will start between the pipes Thursday against the Kings, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports. With a back-to-back set on tap for the Calgary Flames on Wednesday and Thursday, he will take the first night off in favor of game 2. In doing so, Ortio will avoid an Anaheim club averaging 3.00 goals per game in March) but will instead face the Kings, who have actually been a tad better (3.07 goals per game). While the youngster has been the best of the three netminders lately, it wouldn't be surprising if the team continues to split the starts between its three options.

Flames' Joni Ortio: Makes 22 saves in victory

Joni Ortio stopped 22 shots in a 5-2 win against Arizona on Monday.Ortio has been fairly solid in the month of March, notching a 2.30 GAA to go with a 5-3-2 record. It remains to be seen whether he's the goalie of the future in Calgary, but he has certainly been an improvement over what Karri Ramo and Jonas Hiller have given the Calgary Flames this year.
