Ellis was released from his PTO with the Sabres on Friday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.The 33-year-old never stood much of a chance at making the Sabres' Opening Night roster, so Thursday's move doesn't come as much of a shock. He'll open the season with AHL Rochester, where he will patiently await a contract offer from the Sabres in case they require the veteran's services at some point down the road.
