Flames' Dennis Wideman: Eighteen points in 2016-17

Dennis Wideman chipped in five goals and 13 assists in 57 games this season. The blueliner is just two years removed from his eye-popping 56-point effort, but the lack of production in 2016-17 shouldn't at all come as a surprise given that he managed just 19 points in 2015-16. With 87 shots on goal, 61 hits and and 74 blocked shots, Wideman simply didn't do enough to prove valuable in the vast majority of formats this year.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: Tallies goal in victory over Penguins

Dennis Wideman scored a goal in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Penguins on Monday. It really appears his fantastic 2014-15 was a fluke. He's missed 47 games over the last two seasons due to injuries and a suspension, but he only has six goals and 31 points in his last 105 contests. In 80 games during the 2014-15 season, he tallied 15 goals and 56 points, but that seems like a long time ago now. Wideman posted a 8.7 shooting percentage in 2014-15; this season, his shooting percentage is below his 5.7 percent career average at 3.8. However, Wideman is also recording far fewer shots and playing fewer minutes this season than two years ago. Given that he's only back in the lineup due to an injury to Michael Stone, Wideman's fantasy value is virtually nonexistant.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: Watches from press box

Dennis Wideman was a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Predators.Wideman has managed just one point over his past 10 games, and he appears to be the odd man out in Calgary's blue-line logjam at the moment. With the NHL trade deadline right around the corner, the impending free agent could be on the trade block for a thrifty Calgary Flames team looking for any kind of return.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: One point in last 10 games

Dennis Wideman has just 16 points on the season and one in his last 10 games. He's not actually faring that much worse than last season, as his 16 points in 52 games only slightly trail the 19 in 51 he recorded in 2015-16. The biggest factor working against Wideman is his massive decrease in power-play time (1:08 on average vs. 2:57 last year), which will continue to limit his opportunities to hit the scoresheet down the stretch.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: Playing less on power play

Dennis Wideman has averaged just 1:18 on the power play this season, a stark contrast to the 2:57 from 2015-16.His ice time is actually up, albeit slightly, from last year, but the 33-year-old's lack of man-advantage time clearly indicates his role on the Calgary Flames' back end is continuing to diminish. Four of Wideman's 15 points have come while up a man, and his PIM, shots, hits and blocked shots are all similar to where they were last season, but he's past his prime and not delivering the same caliber of fantasy goods he did earlier in his career. Mark Giordano and Dougie Hamilton are far superior options on Calgary's blue line, and T.J. Brodie is certainly better than his 17 points and minus-22 indicate, so Wideman is probably best left to the deepest of leagues.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: Tallies goal for first time since October

Dennis Wideman scored his third goal of the season in a 4-2 victory over the Coyotes on Saturday. It was his first goal in 28 contests. Within the last week, Wideman posted his first multi-point game and first goal since October. Unfortunately, he's still a far cry from his fantasy production of two seasons ago. Wideman scored 15 goals and 56 points in 2014-15, but he's scored just five goals and 31 points in 83 game since then.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: First multi-point game since October

Dennis Wideman notched two assists and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over Colorado. His last multi-point effort was way back on Oct. 22, and Wideman offered fantasy owners precious little in the 26-game interim: just a single goal and five assists to go with marginal peripheral stats. The 33-year-old is only two seasons removed from a 15-goal, 56-point campaign, but there's been no sign of those glory days returning.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: Records assist in loss

Dennis Wideman grabbed an assist in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Rangers. The veteran rearguard registered his fifth point of the season in his first game back after serving the previous four as a healthy scratch. Not many players in the league have tumbled quite as far as Wideman over the last couple of seasons, as he's gone from putting up a whopping 56 points in 2014-15 to serving nearly half the Calgary Flames' games this year as a healthy scratch. That being said, Calgary will need all hands on deck starting Tuesday with five games in seven nights, so he'll likely be dressing more often than not in the near future.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: Dishes out pair of assists Saturday

Dennis Wideman recorded two assists in a 6-4 loss to St. Louis on Saturday. After sitting out the previous three contests as a healthy scratch, Wideman responded well with the pair of apples in addition to four shots on goal and a healthy 20:42 of ice time. More importantly, the 33-year-old actually spent a team-high 3:14 on the power play, so clearly head coach Glen Gulutzan liked what he saw from Wideman in this one. He also skated on the Calgary Flames' top pairing with captain Mark Giordano.

Flames' Dennis Wideman: Sitting out healthy Saturday

Dennis Wideman will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's road game against the Canucks, David Randorf of Sportsnet and HNIC reports. Not known as much of a scorer from the back line, Wideman actually found twine in the season road opener against the Oilers, but the 33-year-old will need to rest occasionally to stay fresh over the course of the season. Brett Kulak reportedly will play in his place Saturday.
