- Pitcher Dan Straily's contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento. Straily was a 24th-round pick in 2009 but has dominated the minor leagues this season, posting a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts for Double-A Midland and a 1.36 mark for Sacramento in eight starts. He has a tremendous 175 strikeouts against just 37 walks (4.73 K/BB) between both levels.
- Catcher Derek Norris was recalled from Sacramento and is will be the everyday catcher with Suzuki gone. Jon Heyman reported the A's see Norris as their "present and future catcher." He owns a .195/.262/.325 line for Oakland this year in 84 plate appearances.
- Outfielder Michael Taylor was also recalled from Sacramento. He was the 29th-best prospect in baseball according to Baseball America prior to the 2010 season but has seen his stock tumble. The 26-year-old is hitting .301/.413/.471 for Sacramento.
- Relievers Jim Miller and Evan Scribner were optioned down to Sacramento. Miller had a 2.16 ERA in 33.1 innings but just a 1.67 K/BB and a 1.320 WHIP. Scribner owned a 1.93 ERA in 14 innings with a 4.33 K/BB but was likely sent down because he has options remaining and therefore would not be exposed to waivers.
