The Blue Jays have claimed pitcher Scott Maine off waivers from the Indians, the club announced Tuesday.
Maine, 27, appeared in nine games for Cleveland in 2012 and had a 10.50 ERA in six innings. He pitched well for Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs organization before the Indians claimed him in August, as he recorded a 2.88 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 28 games out of the bullpen (34.1 innings). Maine appears to be a depth acquisition for the Blue Jays, a team that struggled mightily with injuries in both the rotation and the bullpen last season.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the club designated Scott Cousins and David Herndon for assignment.
