Pirates starting pitcher Brandon Cumpton was optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday to clear a roster spot for outfielder Jose Tabata, who was activated off the disabled list. Cumpton was recalled to start Tuesday after Jeff Locke was pushed back a day.
