The Atlanta Braves have placed starting pitcher Ben Sheets on the disabled list with inflammation in his pitching shoulder and recalled Miguel Batista from Triple-A, the team announced Saturday.
Sheets is 4-4 with a 3.54 ERA and 1.34 WHIP this season. For the first time this season, Sheets was unable to make it through the fifth inning in his most recent start.
The Braves had moved to a six-man rotation with the recent return of Tommy Hanson, and depending on his recovery, it's no lock that Sheets will be placed back in the rotation when healthy. David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Tweeted that manager Fredi Gonzalez expects Sheets to return "after about 15 days."
Batista, who was signed by the Braves on July 27 after being released by the Mets on July 26, returns to a 1-3 record, 4.82 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 46.2 innings this season.
