Injuries continue to ravage the Brewer infield. This time, shortstop Cesar Izturis has been placed on the disabled list with a strained hamstring. He was forced to depart Friday night's win over the Diamondbacks in the sixth inning. Izturis became Milwaukee's starting shortstop only after the season-ending knee injury to Alex Gonzalez.
To replace Izturis on the roster, the Brewers will recall infielder Edwin Maysonet. For the time being, it's likely that Mayonset will back up the newly acquired Cody Ransom at short. While that's far from an optimal arrangement, the existing bar isn't terribly high: Brewer shortstops are hitting .230/.279/.348 on the season.
