Brewers right-hander Shaun Marcum will not face his former team as scheduled on Tuesday; he was scratched with tightness in his right elbow, manager Ron Roenicke told reporters before Monday's game against the Blue Jays.
"His elbow is tight, and we went to throw our bullpen the other day and it was still tight," Roenicke said (via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).
Roenicke said the team hadn't decided who will start Tuesday's game, saying the team would either call a pitcher up or he would empty out the bullpen for the game. He said the results of Monday's game would determine which direction they'll go.
Marcum's elbow started bothering him after his last start on June 14. He missed all of the 2009 season recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The Brewers acquired Marcum, 30, in December of 2010 in exchange for Brett Lawrie. The Blue Jays drafted him in the third round of the 2003 draft, and he made 95 starts for Toronto over parts of five seasons along with 25 relief appearances. Since joining the Brewers, he has gone 18-10 with a 3.50 ERA, including a 5-3 mark with a 3.39 ERA in 2012. In his last four starts, Marcum was 3-0 with a 2.30 ERA.
