The Indians swept the Tigers this week, closing down the series with a win over none other than Justin Verlander Thursday. Closer Chris Perez saved all three games in the series, making him a perfect 16-for-16 since opening day. Immediately after the game, I opined that Perez's teammates should take on his almost-angry swagger. Little did I know, he was working on a beauty of a quote in the locker room.

“I hope so. I don’t think we care. We’re not like flipping on ESPN to see if we’re leading off SportsCenter. We don’t care. They do their thing. They cover the Yankees and the Red Sox and how bad the Angels are. We’re doing our own thing. They’ll eventually turn. I saw a couple articles. We’re starting to get some love. It’s just we don’t have the star power. You look over there and you’ve got [Miguel] Cabrera and [Prince] Fielder and [Justin] Verlander and [Jose] Valverde. But that doesn’t win baseball games. Good teams win baseball games.“
We can't be sure if he specifically meant to say the Tigers are not a good team, but that's how it looks -- and that's how Detroit's record looks right now, too.
And Chris Perez is quickly becoming one of my favorite quote machines. No beating around the bush. No worrying about people's feelings. Just matter-of-factly and unapologetically telling it how he sees it.
