The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired minor league shortstop Ozzie Martinez from the Chicago White Sox, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports. The Dodgers will send cash consderations to Chicago to complete the trade.
Martinez was part of the compensation package the White Sox received when Ozzie Guillen headed to Miami this offseason. He played in 34 games for the then-Florida Marlins, hitting .258/.300/.348 in 71 plate appearances.
Martinez has played 59 games at shortstop and one at second base for Triple-A Charlotte in the White Sox system this season, hitting just .178/.221/.229. With Dee Gordon out with a thumb injury, the Dodgers called up Luiz Cruz from Triple-A Albuquerque, leaving an organizational hole at shortstop. Martinez will fill that role in the minors.
