Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw will not have surgery on his hip this offseason, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Dylan Hernandez.
Hernandez initially reported the story on Wednesday, but general manager Ned Colletti confirmed the decision Thursday. If Kershaw were to have undergone the surgery, he was likely to miss the first month of the season. The 24-year-old Kershaw was fantastic this season. In 227 2/3 innings, Kershaw had a 2.53 ERA and a 2.89 FIP. His performance will certainly earn him some Cy Young votes in a few weeks.
Other Dodgers notes:
- Colletti said the team was unsure of where Hanley Ramirez will play, but said “we’re leaning towards shortstop.”
- The team will make a “strong effort” to bring back reliever Brandon League. League, who was acquired from the Mariners, had a 2.30 ERA and a 2.77 FIP in 27 1/3 innings with the Dodgers.
- Luis Cruz is the everyday third baseman heading into the offseason, Colletti confirmed. The 28-year-old Cruz hit .297/.322/.431 in 296 plate appearances with the Dodgers this season.
- Cuban prospect Yasiel Puig will join the team’s major-league camp during spring training. The Dodgers signed Puig to a seven-year, $42-million deal in June.
