The Dodgers have placed utility man Jerry Hairston Jr. on the disabled list with left hip inflammation and recalled INF/OF Elian Herrera, the club announced Monday via Twitter.
Hairston left Saturday's game against Miami with the hip injury and did not play Sunday. The 36-year-old has been one of the Dodgers' most versatile players, recording time at every position except center field, right field and catcher while posting a .259/.327/.372 batting line in 267 plate appearances.
Herrera already has appeared in 51 games for the Dodgers, posting a .243/.326/.331 line while playing everywhere except first base and catcher. In many ways, the two players fit the same mold, although Hairston offered a bit more pop with the bat. Herrera is expected to join the Dodgers in time for Monday night's game.
