Fernando Rodney be celebrating another save on Tuesday night? (Getty Images) |
If AL All-Star manager Ron Washington has a ninth-inning lead on Tuesday night in Kansas City, then he'll turn to Rays closer Fernando Rodney to protect it, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
On the season, Rodney boasts a sparkling ERA of 0.93 in 38.2 innings pitched. He's blown only one save in 2012. Of course, this news means that Washington is passing over his own cloer, Joe Nathan, who this season has an ERA of 1.73 and 45 strikeouts against just four walks.
The two other experienced closers on the AL roster are Jim Johnson of the Orioles and Chris Perez of the Indians.
