Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was lifted in the third inning against the Cardinals on Saturday after his troublesome right knee once again caused him discomfort. Now, he's facing surgery on that knee and will miss the next four-to-six weeks, the team has announced.
Stanton was previously diagnosed with "loose bodies" in his knee, but he had been hoping to put off any surgical procedure until the winter.
Stanton had been slated to appear not only in Tuesday's All-Star Game in Kansas City, but also in Monday's Home Run Derby. Obviously, he'll need to be replaced in both. At present, he's the only Marlin on the All-Star roster.
Stanton, 22, is hitting .284/.364/.554 with 19 homers and 22 doubles this season.
