CLEVELAND -- Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET, the 112th World Series will get underway at Progressive Field in Cleveland. The Cleveland Indians, who haven't won a title since 1948, will face the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs haven't won since 1908. One of those two clubs will end a long championship drought this year. Here's how you can watch Game 1.
Tuesday morning, the Indians announced their 25-man active roster for the World Series. As expected, right-hander Danny Salazar has made the team. He missed much of September and both the ALDS and ALCS with a forearm issue, but is healthy now. Pitching coach Mickey Callaway said Salazar can throw upwards of four innings and 70 pitches, if necessary.
Here is the 25-man roster the Indians will use for the World Series:
Pitchers (12): Cody Allen, Trevor Bauer, Mike Clevinger, Corey Kluber, Jeff Manship, Zach McAllister, Ryan Merritt, Andrew Miller, Dan Otero, Danny Salazar, Bryan Shaw, Josh Tomlin
Catchers (2): Yan Gomes, Roberto Perez
Infielders (6): Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor, Michael Martinez, Mike Napoli, Jose Ramirez, Carlos Santana
Outfielders (5): Lonnie Chisenhall, Coco Crisp, Rajai Davis, Brandon Guyer, Tyler Naquin
Right-hander Cody Anderson was removed from the roster to make room for Salazar, otherwise the roster is exactly the same as the club's ALCS roster. It's unclear whether Salazar will start or relieve this series. Manager Terry Francona indicated he will play it by ear.
"Danny threw [Sunday] night, and he threw three innings and under those circumstances, it's not the easiest to probably reach your best velocity, but he was getting after it pretty good," Francona said Monday. "We've talked about using three starters, then after the third game we'd kind of see where we are."
Only three Indians players have previously won World Series rings: Crisp (2007 Red Sox), Miller (2013 Red Sox) and Napoli (2013 Red Sox).
