Well, I didn't head into the day thinking I'd write about someone calling someone else a "weird wuss," but you just gotta roll with the punches sometimes.
Rays reliever Joel Peralta's ejection for a "foreign substance" on his glove -- which turned out to be pine tar -- Tuesday night has been a hot topic Wednesday. The specific storyline drawing much attention is that the Nationals bench gave the umpires a "tip" about Peralta's glove. Peralta played for the Nats in 2010. So there's a bit of a back and forth, including Rays manager Joe Maddon saying the move was, well, a word that could come before willow or cat.
So, naturally, it's Nationals manager Davey Johnson's turn to respond. Take it away, Nats beat reporter ...
OK, then. Weird wuss it is. Ball back in Maddon's court, or does he stand pat with the more profane term? I think I'd hang with it, personally.
The Nationals and Rays play again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. ET.
Update: Alright, I'm calling this a TKO in favor of Maddon now. Johnson had made a comment about Maddon being on Twitter -- only he said he "has a Tweeter." (Washington Times). And here comes the one-liner of the entire exchange:
