The Royals' Luis Mendoza entered Tuesday night's start against the Brewers with an ugly ERA of 5.36, but he wound up flirting with history.
The 28-year-old right-hander took a no-hitter into the seventh in Kansas City but wound up losing it on a Ryan Braun infield single. Mendoza was pulled from the 1-0 game not long after missing a chance at the first Royal no-hitter since Bret Saberhagen's in 1991.
