It's not a good night to be an American League East starter. Tampa Bay Rays ace Chris Archer had already exited his start when Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Marcus Stroman departed during the second inning of a game against the Baltimore Orioles (GameTracker).
Whereas Archer's ailment was unclear (it's since been described as forearm tightness), the catalyst behind Stroman's was on display for all to see -- he took a Mark Trumbo line drive off the pitching elbow.
That was a 108 mile per hour line drive that Trumbo hit off Stroman's pitching elbow. #Bluejays #jays #Orioles

Stroman appeared to be in significant pain, but seemingly lobbied to continue pitching. The Blue Jays, all but out of playoff contention, turned to Matt Dermody.
Marcus Stroman just got drilled in the elbow by a 108 MPH liner & begged to keep pitching. Coach had to take his glove away. Dude is unreal pic.twitter.com/WdD1N1hYkb

Stroman entered the night with a 3.11 ERA (146 ERA+) and 2.73 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He says he'll make his next start:
I'm good. I'll be ready to rock for my next start. Trumbo hits absolute missiles. Lol shout to the squad for the W! @BlueJays
