The Seattle Mariners have activated outfielder Franklin Gutierrez from the disabled list and optioned outfielder Casper Wells to Triple-A Tacoma, the club tweeted on Monday.
Gutierrez makes his return from a concussion suffered June 29, just 16 days after he made a return from a torn pectoral muscle that cost him the first 63 games of the season. These injuries come a year after stomach gastritis cost Gutierrez 41 games and sapped his power -- he slugged just .273 in 2011, 110 points below his career mark.
Wells owned a solid .757 OPS at the All-Star break and peaked at .816 on July 16. Since then, he has hit just .144/.206/.267 in 23 games. He'll likely make his way back to Seattle when rosters expand Sept. 1.
