Marlins catcher John Buckwill wear the helmet pictured above this season in honor of the Marlins and their new ballpark.
According to Joe Frisaro of MLB.com (who also took the pictures), the Miami skyline on hte right side of the helmet is from a picture taken by Marlins photographer Kelly Gavin, who took the shot from the Marlins Park press box. The right side of the helmet shows Buck's Jeep rolling down South Beach. The mask also incorporates all the team's new colors.
With so many catchers using hockey-style masks, I wonder why more don't do full-out hockey goalie paint jobs.
The Marlins open the season Wednesday in Miami and then come to Cincinnati for a game Thursday. I'll be at Great American Ball Park on Thursday and will try to catch up with Buck to ask him about his mask then.
