The Miami Marlins are the subject of the Showtime series, "The Franchise," this season. They were set to have two more episodes, with the series concluding Wednesday, August 29. Instead, due to the failure of the Marlins' 2012 season, there will only be one more episode aired, this coming Wednesday.
“There was an option to do more but given the state of our season, it was decided that the original eight would suffice,” Marlins president David Samson told Fish Tank blog.
The Marlins were signed on to do eight episodes and -- since they shot one, unplanned special around the Ozzie Guillen-Fidel Castro flap -- Wednesday marks the eighth episode. Still, once that special aired, it appeared there would be at least nine episodes.
It should be noted, casting the Marlins for this series was a great idea. With the mix of personalities and talent in house, it appeared this would be must-watch TV. It's hard to blame the network involved when the nearly entire team either underperforms (Hanley Ramirez before being traded, Heath Bell, Gaby Sanchez, Logan Morrison, etc.) or falls injured (only Jose Reyes has played more than 93 of the Marlins' 122 games).
In fact, maybe ending the MLB season prematurely would also be a good idea for the Marlins.
