The Mets have placed outfielder Jason Bay on the 15-day disabled list with a nondisplaced fracture of a rib on his left side suffered when he dove for a ball hit by Gregor Blanco in the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Giants.
Bay had X-rays at Citi Field on Monday and those were negative, but had a scheduled MRI on Tuesday and the team announced the move in the afternoon. Here's the video of the play. Bay stayed in the game for several innings, despite originally feeling that he hurt his shoulder. After the game, he told reporters his chest was sore.
Bay is hitting .240/.316/.460 with three home runs in 15 games this season.
The Mets called up infielder Zach Lutz from Triple-A Buffalo. He was hitting .333/.425/.556 with three home runs in 74 plate appearances for the Bisons.
