- The Phillies, after their flurry of trades before Tuesday's non-waiver deadline, have designated Mike Fontenot for assignment, with Michael Martinez called up to take his place. Fontenot was hitting .289/.343/.340, with one home run and five RBI, in 47 games and 97 at-bats, and could be traded to a team looking for infield depth.
- Hideki Matsui asked the Rays for his release, and they've granted it. Matsui, hitting only .147/.214/.221, is hoping to catch on with another club.
- The Yankees, after acquiring Casey McGehee, sent Ramiro Pena to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
- McGehee went 0-for-2 in his Yankees debut, batting seventh, but walked twice, and drove in a run.
- The Indians have recalled Vinny Rottino and Travis Hafner has been placed on the paternity list, the team announced in a press release.
- The Cubs called up Chris Volstad and Alberto Cabrera, and optioned Casey Coleman to Triple-A Iowa.
- Finally, the Pirates optioned Daniel McCutchen to Triple-A Columbus to make room on the roster for newly-acquired reliever Chad Qualls.
