Below you'll find some roster moves of note from around the league.
-
The Rockies have placed starting pitching Christian Friedrich on the 15-day DL with a stress fracture in his lower back, and have called up Matt McBride from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
-
McBride, acquired in the 2011 trade for Ubaldo Jimenez, can play all over the diamond -- catcher, first base, third base, and outfield -- and was dominating Triple-A pitching. In 91 games this season with Colorado Springs, McBride is hitting .354/.380/.561 with 10 home runs and 77 RBI.
-
The Nationals have optioned catcher Sandy Leon to Triple-A Syracuse in order to make room for catcher Kurt Suzuki, acquired on Friday, on the roster.
-
If you missed it on Friday at Eye On Baseball, Nationals catcher Jesus Flores heard about the acquisition of Suzuki from the media instead of his manager, and on Saturday, MLB.com's Bill Madson tweeted that the Nationals weren't happy with how Flores called games behind the plate.
-
Some in the Nationals' organization feel Flores cares more about offense than calling a good game, Madson also tweeted.
-
Flores has a .576 OPS in 67 games this season, while Suzuki has a .536 OPS in 75 games.
-
The Blue Jays have signed outfielder/designated hitter Jack Cust to a minor-league deal, tweeted the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser. Cust will report to Triple-A Las Vegas.
-
Cust has an .875 OPS in 98 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, with 20 home runs and 66 RBI.
-
Finally, the Dodgers have optioned Stephen Fife to Triple-A to make room for Joe Blanton, acquired on Friday, on the roster.
